Baystack 470-48T password recovery
- attach terminal (note the DB9 has pins 2-3 opposite to Extreme)
- while powering on the switch, hold down Ctrl-C
- wait for a few bootup lines, and you will be presented with a few one letter commands.
- choose "i" and answer yes. this erases the config.
- select "a" to continue bootup. Ctrl-Y to login. You now have factory defaults for all settings.
Extreme password recovery
- unplug the power and plug it back in with the space bar held down on the console. If you miss the boot menu, try again, it is a very fast process.
- Once you get the "BootROM-> " prompt, enter "h" (for help) and you will see your options.

d: Force default configuration

k: Erase selected configuration
p: Boot PCMCIA card
s: Load code image from serial port using XMODEM
BootROM->
- Type in the option for "Force default configuration" and then "Boot on board flash"
- Restore the configuration from the tftp server.
Procurve reset to factory defaults
- Using pointed objects, simultaneously press both the RESET and CLEAR buttons.
- Continue to press the CLEAR button while releasing the RESET button.
- When the SELF TEST LED begins to flash, release the CLEAR button.
