Laser Printing on the
HP LaserJet 4000
Colour Printing on the
Kyocera
- Colour print jobs are now automatically released. To cancel a print job use the web-based release monitor at http://www.eng.uwaterloo.ca/printers
- A charge of $0.50/printed 8.5"x11" side is applied to your Laser Printing Account
- Refunds for spoiled colour pages only. Bring your spoiled output to the Help Desk (E2-31308A).
- The colour printer is located at the Computing HelpDesk? (E2-1308A).
- Single and double-sided colour printing is available
- Also, tabloid (11"x17") printing is available at $1.00/per side.
- It is wise to preview your output by printing to file and viewing it with GSView (under Start/Programs/Text and Document Tools), before sending it to the printer.
- Printing colour onto transparencies is not available using this printer.
Plain Text Printing on the
HP LaserJet 4000
- A charge of $0.10/page is applied to your Laser Printing Account
- There are no refunds for plain text printing
- Draft printing can be done on the following Waterloo Nexus printers: (e.g. default@...) Fulcrum, Gear? , Helix, Lever, Multi Media, Pulley, Wedge, Weef1, Weef2 and Wheel
- Text jobs print 2 pages per side, double-sided (duplexed). This is the only format available.
- Under Windows you can send plain text files to the printer from a command shell using the commands:
net use \\engprint\Eng_Wheel /USER:userid (only if not on Nexus station)
print /D:\\engprint\Eng_Wheel N:\path\to\Myfile.txt
- Under Unix on Engage, you can use
lpr -Pwheel path/to/Myfile.txt
Printing from Unix to Waterloo Nexus
- Unless you are printing from your account on engage.uwaterloo.ca the following won't work.
- Printing Text:
where
-P specifies the routing (e.g.
LabWheel lab) and file.txt specifies the name of the text file to be printed.
- Printing Postscript:
-
lpr -Pwheel file.ps
where printername specifies the routing and file.ps specifies the name of the postscript file to be printed.
Adding Printing Funds
Finding Printers on Waterloo Nexus Workstations
- Look under Start / Search / Find Printers, select the Nexus domain and click the ''Find Now'' button. Double-click the printer you want. You can set any desired default printer. Engineering printers are named Eng_xxxx. Once you add a printer it remains in your roaming profile.
Refunds and Problem Reporting
- Refunds are generally NOT given for black-and-white self-serve printing in the public labs. However, paper and toner are checked daily on weekdays.
- Bring spoiled colour output to the ''Engineering Computing Help Desk'' (Help Desk) E2-1308A for your refund.
- Report any printing problems you notice to printers@engmail.
