I am a faculty member
in Decision Sciences at the School of Business, Dalhousie University, Canada,
as well as an adjunct professor in Expert Systems and Artificial Intelligence
at the department of Systems Design Engineering, University of Waterloo. I
have interdisciplinary research and teaching interests in such faculties as
Decision Modeling (Operations Management, Multi-Echelon Production &
Supply Chain Management, Layout Optimization, Mathematical Programming),
Intelligent Tools for Decision Making (Artificial/Machine Intelligence, Soft
Computing, Knowledge Systems), etc. I received my B.E. degree
in Electrical Engineering from N.E.D. University of Engineering & Tech.
in 1993, my M.S. degree in Systems Engineering (Industrial & Operations
Management) from the King Fahd University in 1997, and my Ph.D. degree in
Systems Design Engineering (Expert Systems/Operations Management) from the
University of Waterloo in 2005. I also completed requirements for M.S. in
Management Sciences, University of Waterloo, in 2002. I have received
Post-Graduate Diplomas in Operations Research and Cognitive Science, also
from the University of Waterloo. From 1993 to 1994, I
worked as a Systems Design Engineer at Precision Tech., Pakistan. From 1994
to 1997, I worked in capacities of Research & Teaching Assistants in the
Department of Systems Engineering, King Fahd University, Saudi Arabia. From
1998 to 2000, I worked as a Lecturer in the Department of Management
Information Systems, King Fahd University, Saudi Arabia. From 2000 to 2005, I
worked in capacities of Research & Teaching Assistants in the Departments
of Systems Design Engineering and Management Sciences, University of
Waterloo. From January 2005 to July 2007, I was a faculty member in
Information Systems and Operations Management at the School of Business &
Economics, Wilfrid Laurier University, Canada. Since September 2007, I have
been teaching and researching at the Department of Systems Design
Engineering, University of Waterloo as an adjunct faculty member. I regularly
consult with industry and I have been involved in various industry and NSERC
funded research projects. I have also been the Director of Research at
Congruent Systems Inc. from Jan. 2005 to Jan. 2008, an engineering and design
consulting company based in Waterloo, Canada, and I am continuing to support
their technological and innovation efforts as a Consultant. I have received
Distinguished Teaching Awards, Faculty of Engineering Merit Scholarships,
Graduate Studies Merit Awards, Special Doctoral Student Awards, Special
Graduate Student Awards, Graduate Student Awards, and President's Award for
Volunteerism from the University of Waterloo, Canada. In addition, I received
the Archibald Teaching Excellence Award from Dalhousie University. Furthermore,
I was a recipient of an Award for Doctoral Studies at the University of
Waterloo, a Graduate Studies Award from the King Fahd University, and the
University Talent Scholarship from the N.E.D. University. In the industrial
realm, I have received the Award for Leadership in Technological Innovation
from Congruent Systems Inc. I am a member of the
Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS), the
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the Association for
Computing Machinery (ACM), the Association for Information Systems (AIS), the
Society for Information Management (SIM), the Canadian Operational Research
Society (CORS), Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), the Pattern Analysis
& Machine Intelligence Research Group (PAMIR) of the University of
