Tim: Welcome to my world. But hope that the problems remain minor and that anything more stressful only comes up once in a blue moon :) It was surprisingly slow today for my first shift of the semester this afternoon.

Raymond: Have fun, good luck :)

i had my last day of training today, was quite hectic review review review and then near end of day i had to do the training test which was like pretty much asking me to copy the training manual word for word almost, it was an essay and a half my hand hurt by the end of it oh well

tomorrow friday is my first day on my own, its gonna be interesting indeed

I had my first day at work today! I know! Me! Work! During a semester! Needless to say it wasn't as nearly as exciting as all the jobs I've had before. I helped this man email someone (he didn't know how to use email... I didn't know if I should cry or laugh), and two grandma use the CD-ROM so they can see some family photos. The most exciting part was... *drum roll*, helping out a guy with his newly bought shiny black MacBook so he can use the wireless in the library.

Ahhh yes, how I actually miss working for an actuall coporation.

2B Work Term: ATI IGP AE

ATI HQ at Commerce Valley: Cubicle Hell! But the main lobby is...whoa. Walk in and it feels like a (multi-level) shopping mall (as Farran put it) - complete with trees, flowing water and fountains, and as we found out today, holy torching fire! (Marshmellows anyone?) A gigantic CrossFire Xpress 3200 banner draped the multi-storey wall. Whoa.

Well, for you curious (and demanding) bunch, the first day at ATI went as follows:

9 AM: Orientation. Breakfast, fruit, drinks, policies, procedures, contacts, introductions. All the rooms have names and all the cubicles have numbers!

Explaining ends at 11 AM and we all fourty-something of us UW Co-op/U of T PEY students head out of the meeting room with spiffy black mug in hand. Managers are called down to pick us up from the main lobby to our respective departments.

I now work in IGP AE. What does that mean? That means I work with Application Engineers to resolve issues that OEMs or ODMs have with their products when they're developing products with ATI's integrated chipsets (desktop and mobile).

What does that mean? Two words: Integrated Graphics.

You know those wonderful motherboards that have "on-board graphics"? Yup. Those. I guess I'm gaining a new found appreciation for integrated graphics?

That's about all that I can say about what I do in that spiffy glass building.

So the first day without a security pass meant that we couldn't go anywhere. I mean nowhere - not even out. Needed to go to the washroom? Out of luck there! 6PM: Time to leave to go home? Nope!
Okay, as long as you found a friend with a security pass it was okay...but...if you didn't...

I'm in at around 9:30 AM and leave around 6 PM.

So far, that's all to report. For now.

So how's everyone else doing?

i second tim :) from the point about facebook, to the face-paint motivation, and the update about work.

Tim L.
Or was it a run-in with a locked shopping cart? hahahaha =P

How was first day at work? I want update, NOW. (Yes, I can be demanding)

Alex T.
correct-o!

Tim L.
I distinctly remember someone telling me that they'd get a facebook account after finishing off an academic term.

I've yet to see this person on my friends list, perhaps a face-plant prevented such an action? Hmmmm? =P

Scott
I agree fully, the new CD sucks.

Raymond

Good luck in 2007-2007 at school to those of you going back, and have fun at work to those of you on internship/co-op :)

Scott
I think Tim was referring to 20" extra ;) LOL

Jay Chou's new CD is out!

Raymond

Scott
o_O! I gotta go and try out the Java Chip Frappuccino Blended Coffee!

Here's something old ;)

Spaking of Coffee...here's the deal...we all think those delicious coffee drinks are harmless...a lil' summer pick-me-up as we stroll through the mall. Hmm...take a look.

The largest Java Chip Frappuccino weighs in at 650 calories - 50 calories more than a Big Mac - and contains 25 grams of fat, compared with 33 grams for the Big Mac.

Just How Many Calories?

A cup of black coffee has just 10 calories, Starbucks says, but an espresso drink laden with milk, flavoring and whipped cream can almost be a meal in itself.

Some nutritional information for 16-ounce "grande" drinks at Starbucks:

Nonfat latte: 160 calories, 0 grams of fat.
Vanilla latte, with whole milk: 280 calories, 10 grams of fat.
Chai latte with nonfat milk: 230 calories, 0 grams of fat.
Mocha with whole milk and whipped cream: 400 calories, 22 grams of fat.
Caramel Frappuccino, with whipped cream: 430 calories, 16 grams of fat.
Light caramel Frappuccino, without whipped cream: 180 calories, 1.5 grams of fat.
Strawberries & Creme Frappuccino Blended Creme, without whipped cream: 470 calories, 5 grams of fat.
Strawberries & Creme Frappuccino Blended Creme, with whipped cream: 600 calories, 17 grams of fat.

Strawberries & Creme = 20" Thighs. Enjoy. =P

Raymond
