zoh wellz.... they are getting a call+letter from the bank now. and I am sure the bank is charging them extra fees for being the irresponsible merchants that they are. especially when they say something like "support tickets are ususally responded in 3-4 hours and sometimes up to a day"?

Raymond
Ya i am sort of recording vids like mad so much fun lol

Alex T.
go yahoo!

lol, yeaa that must suck xD

Scott
They charged me $50 "by accident" for a tiny domain transfer... :@ and they are making the refund process as painfully slow as it can be.

Apparently, my support ticket's been lost a total number of 3 times already. Support tickets are NOT supposed to disappear into thin air.

i'll tell you who's offended :P

I am deeply hurt by your unsupported remarks Scott. Please elaborate?

Alex T.
Err... did someone offend you, Mr. Scott?

Are you recording videos like mad, Raymond?

Scott
Registerfly sucks. Go yahoo!

hehehe the classic cheap route to Taiwan... flying from Anchorage...

Well... at least I'll be fed WELL on the second flight... unlike Air Canada... =p

I wonder if I'll be pulled in for extra security screening if i chug a bottle of water quickly right before I am about to pass thru security checkpoint hahaha.

18 hours isn't half bad...

Try flying New York to Taiwan via Anchorage. Now that's a hell-hole of a flight. Totally more then 22 hours, add an extra hour of re-fuel time sitting at Anchorage at 3:00am PST = 6:00am EST. Talk about napping at the airport.

Have fun though, I love flying, even if it is 22 hours. Enjoy!

Vancouver and Taiwan?

Scott
I think I am going to cry... I'll be on two flights within the next 72 hours. Totalling over 18 flight hours :(:(

Alex T.
Hahaha... yes, Raymond. In fact, your SD600 records video too! Our Nikon D70 and Canon Rebel don't...

All hail the SD600! =D

How are you enjoying that little camera?

Raymond
I have a Canon SD600 digital camera... it takes pictures

Well even though I do have the cash floating around, I don't particularly like to drop over $1,000 on glass. Like the 17-55 is like $1,100 new, or the 24-70 is like $1,200. Then there's the 70-200 IS that's like $2,500 CAD (I don't understand it since it's like $1,600 USD). I swallowed hard when I dropped like $700 on my 10-22mm.

Alex T.
The new 70-300mm seems reworked compared to my cheap-o G version and the glorified ED versions. It's gained quite a few extra pieces of glass, and bigger too - 17 elements up from 12 and 67 mm thread up from 62. I wonder what's different... besides the added VR.

The two new lens add to Nikon's compliment of 67mm diameter lenses. Previously, there was only the one 67mm thread lens - the D70 kit lens. What a pain for filters.

SD cards are nice for people with notebooks. A lot of notebooks come with SD/MMC/MS readers now, but CF readers will require an extra PCMCIA card. However, I wouldn't bet on any speedy transfers with the built-in readers. Good luck offloading a 2 GB card. zzzz...

The D80 seems like a D200, but with a plastic body, uses SD cards and is available at a much much lower price point. Same 10 MP sensor, 2.5 inch LCD, 11-point AF module, wireless flash control, new 'e' battery and available battery grip.

$4K to $5K eh, Richard? That's what co-op jobs are for, right? haha... =D

Richard
What's the significance of ED glass in the 70-300mm? Because other than that, it looks mighty similar to the 75-300mm IS USM from Canon, and from all the reports, that doesn't look like it's a great, great lens. Then again, Canon's known to release craptacular lenses for their consumer line.

I read that they hypothesized Nikon's strategy was D50 -> D80 and D70s -> D200 with the whole memory card dealie. I wouldn't be surprised, but the whole SD thing imho is stupid. 10.2 MP RAW files on a 2GB SD card? What the heck? I know you can still take well over 200 pictures probably, but pro SD cards are still more expensive then pro CF cards. And you can pick up CF cards a lot cheaper through second-hand deals too.

I'm sure it'll sync with your SB-800. Even my measly Digital Rebel will high-speed sync with a flash unit.

I wouldn't mind a 17-55mm though. Seeing as how I've got a 10-22mm, I just want a 24-70 f/2.8 (but I'll settle for the 17-55mm IS USM... hehe) and a 70-200 f/2.8 IS USM. Then, I'll be happy. Throw in a macro lens and a couple flash units. That'll only set me back probably $4000 - $5000.

Alex T.
hmmm... 1/200 sync? *cries* I hope this thing does FP Sync with the Speedligth SB-800... but somehow I doubt it.

SD cards? Awww... man... Forget sharing memory cards with D70/D200/D2X/Rebel/20D/30D/5D/etc users...

I do see some D200/D2X features in there. I hope the Commander Mode for the built-in flash isn't as crippled as the D70 - but it isn't a 2K D200...and finally a vertical grip!

ISO 100. Yay, but I don't miss it.

"Selected Photographs" delete. Oh finally.

11 area AF...hopefully it's good enough to hand over the camera to a random person and not have them take a picture which is focused on the building in the far distance instead of the two heads in front of the lens. Wait, maybe that's intentional...they really hate me! *cries* lol..

70-300 VR...hmmm. Kinda pricey. The 18-200 VR seems like a better lens to have. 200 to 300 is that not much difference. With 10.2 MP to play around with, cropping is less of a problem too. But hurray for SWM and VR on the 70-300 - where it's actually useful. Now the 70-200 f/2.8 VR is another matter... weeee... so good... so good... my favourite lens... can't afford... =P

But you just can't beat a $200 70-300 mm lens in terms of value. It's a piece of crap in terms of build quality, glass, sharpness, bokeh, speed and noise, but I sure wouldn't be able to take some great photos at concerts and events. There is no doubt it is one of my favourite lenses too.

How many 18-xx lens can Nikon come up with? 18-55, 18-70, 18-135, 18-200, 17-35, 17-55. If only there wasn't such a ginormous gap between the consumer 18-55 and the pro 17-55.

I have a feeling that 18-135 aperture will ramp up to f/5.6 in no time... just like the D70 kit lens. They might as well have called it a f/4.5 18-70mm lens. There's nothing like a fast prime =D

And now, back to your regularly scheduled programming... *beeeeooopp*

Dan T.
Hmm...interesting camera.

I'm interested to see the performance of that new 70-300 lens though.

Richard
D80's out (yes, I know I'm operating on London time right now...). It doesn't look like much of an upgrade. It's definitely more of an upgrade than from the D70 to the D70s, but maybe it's like a D70sII? Haha.

What'll happen when the D50 becomes the D60 and then the D70? Dun. Dun. Dun.
