The count for number of exploding Dells receiving news/blog coverage is 3. =)
here | |

My friend from my class had his Dell battery changed because it was getting quite toasty when it charged... way too hot to handle. *sizzle*

Artificial sun? Reminds me of Spider-Man II.
I remember Engadget reporting the 3rd Dell exploading in Singapore or something. Weird. My roomate has a Dell, I wonder if it's the same model...

It's getting so hot lately that I've been running my notebook at an underclocked 800 MHz down from the typical 1.73 GHz just to keep the fan from spinning at high speed 24/7 and toasting my black heat-absorbing table.
But at least I'm happy to report that it's holding up quite well at 800 MHz. Switching between PDFs (it's exam season...) is a little time consuming, but bearable. I've now got one down and four to go!

edit: *should we be afraid?

the first one that made headlines

But yea, Canada Computers is stupid. They charge $50 for the one I want and NCIX charges $36... if I really want to be anal about it, i save extra 1.5% from paying BC PST...
Scott | |
I lost count already...
Alex T. | |
Which exploding Dell laptop?
Raymond | |
so exactly how did that dell laptop explode?
Alex T. | |
A cooling pad?? Golly gosh... you're turning into my other friend...who has a Pentium 4 in her notebook... =P Burn baby burn!
And, who actually has a dual core here?
Scott | |
soo... i heard i need a laptop cooling pad. -_____-

Haha... yeah, the 9550 was such a budget model when I built my computer. I figured that $125 was enough for what I needed to run; and plus, it had 256MB of VRAM! Wowzers. Then they came out with Half-Life 2, and FEAR, and all those. My computer barely ran Doom 3 and lags even on full settings for a turn-based game like Civilization 4. Yeesh.
Back when I spec-ed my computer two years ago, PCI-e was pretty much non-existent. AGP x16 was the shit and now we have dual PCI-e x16 and dual PCI-e x1 on that mobo you posted? Oi I feel so behind the technological curve. And me and my single processor... not even a Pentium D or Core 2 Duo. *tear*
Alex T. | |
Oh Richard, 9550 is such an in-between model and Rage Pro 128... I remember those.. compared to today's tech, that wasn't even 3D... =D
But yes, I do remember experiencing ATI's slightly off drivers back then. Honestly though, I've never used an NVIDIA card in my life. Okay, if you want to count the RIVA TNT and GeForce2 MX that I put in some old machines, and installed a 6600 then yes, I've used NVIDIA cards. But other than that, I haven't had the opportunity to try NVIDIA. I've only used ATI in my systems, so that's all I know - Rage IIc, All-In-Wonder, Rage 3D Pro, Rage 128, 7500, 8500, 9500, 9700 Pro, 9800 Pro, 9800 XT. And I haven't had the opportunity to experience the PCI-Express generation either. The Xx00 and X1x00 series cards have still eluded me for the time being. If I had gotten that NVIDIA Performance Analyst job, then I would have had the opportunity to see both sides of the coin! And oh yes, I know, Miss, I'm such a jerk ;) Sorry for disturbing your beauty sleep.
Richard | |
Eww... I know you're working for ATI and all, but Nvidia > ATI when it comes to cards. In my experiences with ATI (ATI Radeon 9550 and a ATI Rage Pro 128 back in the day) and Nvidia (Ti4200), the Nvidia one's drivers were a lot better, a lot more stable, and overclocked a lot more. I can only push my 9550 like 25MHz in VRAM speed and maybe 75MHz in GPU speed. :(

Physics is the devil. Good thing I don't need most of later on....so far.
I'm sure there are some really... odd/different... people out there that loooove exams? I'm loving sleep too, until I get woken up at 5 AM in the morning by my cell phone... but at least it's good email that woke me up, and not spam! And now, back to the calling bed. I'll reply in the morning.
Tim L. | |
Physics is the devil, Scotty and I have both concluded.
Who doesn't hate exams? Sleep however, it's something that everyone loves. =)
