So...does anyone want to invade the land of Calvin/Scott with me?

Alex T.
@Katie It was a nice drive, through the country, especially with the beautiful sunset. But no animals in the wilderness, thank goodness...

Katie
Did you all get to enjoy the wilderness? See any pretty animals? =P

Calvin
So uh...when are you guys gonna come visit me? XD

Long weekend is coming up soon =D

Richard
Just the crazy hair. The shotgun was a figment of everyone else's imagination. No need to blow things out of proportion.

Alex T.
The one with the shotgun? lol...

Richard
You guys didn't see the sketchy owner of the private property we were turning in front of.

Dan T.
LOL, sketchy is right! You guys are awesome hahahahaha

Scott
Wow haha that looks like a sketch drive! Did the sasquatch attack the convoy?

Microsoft Internship - Day 30 - Paintball Adventure

So here's the story...

A bunch of as Microsoft and Amazon interns set out in the early afternoon to go Eastside Paintball for a day of rage release. After meeting up at the South Kirkland Park and Ride (our usual gathering place), three shiny new silver sedans set out for a half-hour drive north to the outdoor woodlands paintball fields. PK, Savio and I drove the 15 of us this time around.

So we were driving, driving, driving... and that half-hour was taking waaaaaay too long. "Are we there yet?" "Umm... I think we're lost..." The three-car convoy pulled off to a small road and consulted our different resources to get ourselves back on track. Savio's car had a paper map. PK's car had a GPS unit). My car had my printed directions from Live Maps. Our car would have had a GPS unit too if someone *cough* Charing *cough* brought it along. Nevertheless, with the power of intern-coordination and a destination finally tapped into the GPS unit in PK's car, we managed to navigate ourselves away from the unknown.

But shortly after that, little did we know, the GPS unit in PK's car took us onto a shady, barely one-car wide unpaved dirt/mud road in the middle of the forest... yet our three car sedan convoy forged ahead into the trees. Close the windows to avoid branches taking out some eyeballs and shift down to low gear it is.

Heading into the forest

All we saw was mud, puddles, trees, and no trespassing signs, and then... a dead end. Oh shoot! How do we turn around three cars to get back out onto the main road?! Through more power of intern-coordination, a few guys jumped out of the cars to provide direction, watch the tree stumps and move bushes so that the drivers could finesse the cars into turning 180 degrees and head back out.
A dead end

N-point turns to get back out of the forest

Charing jumped out of our car and documented the experience with photos (which are the photos you're seeing here). They're all up on facebook somewhere. I'm pretty sure that drivers who were less... (what's the word I'm looking for...?) calm... would have freaked out by now.

Somehow we managed to navigate back onto the highway and finally we saw signs to ESPB (Eastside Paintball). We followed the signs which led us through another crazy rocky, bumpy, hilly, one-car-wide unpaved road. OMG OMG OMG. All the laughter and company in the car provide by Dan, Mark, Charing and Dana kept the mood light and going as we slowly, carefully, cautiously, calmly made our way through to the end and finally arrived at the Paintball field.

Paintball, was paintball. Most of us have never gone paintballing. Some of us have done it once. Elimination, King of the Hill, Ring the Bell, and more elimination. Most of the memorable adventure was in the journey, not the destination. This again is true for our drive back from the paintball field...

We decided to drive back to Bellevue for dinner so we headed down the crazy rocky, bumpy, hilly, one-car-wide unpaved road and onto the highway. As we entered to I-405, our convey started to be break up as there were more cars on the highway now. All the cars were on their own now, so we made a phone call. "Meet at 1st and Bellevue way".. "umm.. where's that?" Some circling and another phone call: "Meet at Bellevue Square" "Umm...but Bellevue Square is HUGE...!" We circled around and waited in line at a traffic light to turn left towards Bellevue Square. "Wait... is that Savio's car in front of us?" We turn left and looked again. "Wait... is that PK's car in front of Savio's car that's in front of our car?!" Shoot! Our convoy miraculously got back together and we all turned into Bellevue Square together. Waterloo Interns: we're all connected and naturally attracted to each other. =D

We wanted to eat dinner at the Cheesecake factory, but when we saw how packed it was, we knew there was no way they could sit our party of 17. Across from The Cheesecake Factory was Red Robin - A classic American family-style burger and fries restaurant. Why not. After all that exercise, we were starving and it looked cheery - unlimited steak fries, unlimited drink refills (even for the nice fruity drinks), and awesome burgers. The chicken breast from my Crispy Chicken burger was one and a half times the size of my bun. They sure don't skimp out on the important things! Awesome. Richard secretly told the waitress that it was Charing's birthday in hopes of causing some ruckus, but all we got was some cheering and Charing got a sundae. And, no, it wasn't Charing's birthday. =P

Charing's fake birthday
