Canadian Undergraduate Technology Conference (CUTC) 2006 - Day 2
![]() TechExpo = lots of giveaways from the companies. I now have a stack of papers and pens. Gone are the days of the skinny capped BIC pen. In are flashy clicky cleary 'cool' pens with rubber grips and semi-flowing ink and LED's. More details to come...but for now, Photos from Day 2 at: http://www.ece.uwaterloo.ca/~atruong/cutc06_day2/

Close up filters..hmmm. The ones I have are passed down from my dad. He bought them 20+ years ago. I guess the quality would vary. The ones I have have extremely noticeable chromatic aberation and extreme softness. I've never really compared any before, so I'm not too sure about which ones are good.
Richard | |
Those close-up filters look like an interesting item to get. A quick look on eBay shows some inexpensive sales. Any suggestions / tips to be aware of when purchasing some?
Raymond | |
lol dan ya im sure thatll give him excitement alright =P

any really random ones were probably taken by me :P

The macro shots were taken using the 50mm prime with a 1, 2 and 4 Close-up filters screwed on.
Richard S. | |
What lens were you using for those macro shots? Don't tell me that was the 18-70... :P
Dan T. | |
Raymond: exactly why i suggested it. he wanted 'excitement'. that'll give him lots.
re: iWeb. totally agree. coding sucks now after iWeb =( the possibilities of all the video editing stuff too...imagine if we had all that for Mac Media! complete insanity and ridiculousness haha. CUTC: very cool :)

Canadian Undergraduate Technology Conference (CUTC) 2006 - Day 1
![]() http://www.cutc.ca I'm taking two days off work (it's co-op job time again! Yes, back at BMO InvestorLine...) to take part in CUTC - the "largest student-run conference in Canada". There were a few hundred delagates there, and many great speakers from industry. It's on from Thursday January 12th until Saturday the 14th. So, one day down, two more to go! The granola bar breakfast they provide is... well, granola bar-like, but the lunch is good. First off there was the Yahoo! guy who talked about searching and Flickr ("interestingness" and "clusters"). Next was lunch. mmm. Then there was Hanna Cho who talked about societal things about technology to put things in a different perspective. Then I went to the ATI TechShop where they were showing RenderMonkey. Continuing on with the keynote speakers was some Xerox VP guy who talked about Smart Document Management (or something along those lines) - twas interesting. Next was...Microsoft, I beileve. They had tons of computers set up with Windows Vista Beta for us to play around with. Yes there were messed up, but they are betas afterall. Charing's first reaction: "Oh look! Macs!" uhh... ohh.. it's Vista... It's...spiffier than XP (if your PC can handle the new graphics system that is...if) IE7 has tabbed browsing! WHOA!!! like, WHOA!!! ...I've... never... seen... that... before... But everything else is spiffier. Lucas from our comp eng class works at Microsoft so he showed the crowd a Visual C# 2005 Express Avalon coding demo. Let's see.. what else was there? Some ATI Demos, some Telus talk, some insightful talk from another wonderful speaker. I can't remember the names right now, I'll add them in later. Random photos from the event are up: http://www.ece.uwaterloo.ca/~atruong/cutc06_day1/ Any really random photos in the collection are probably taken by Miss Alice, Charing, or Dan... Let's see what Day 2 will bring...

:O
i hear trademark problems... "iweb" is already a trademark for (wow, a Canadian) hosting company... iweb.ca, lol but of those this has nothing to do w/your will to code your own website. At least you HAVE (sort of) a website... lol
Tim L. | |
Alex, I TOTALLY know what you mean.
Let's get a .Mac family pack, as well as iLife 06!
Raymond | |
Actually dan i dont think thats a good idea being it is NYC
Alex T. | |
I'm currently watching the Macworld 2006 video and iWeb is absolutely killing my will to code my own website...
Dan T. | |
Perhaps, Xiao, you need to go to take a walk around NYC and find some inspiration to sculpt something for all of us =D
