I want a popcorn machine too! Cotton candy works as well =D

Richard
You should've asked for a cotton candy machine. That would've been fun...

Dan H.
OMG! POPCORN MACHINE!!! Popcorn rocks!! but not microwave-style.... it has to be popped from a machine! I can't believe they put that right next to your office! I would probably be the one finishing off that bulk box of kernels.

Day 69 - Pop! Pop! Pop!
Wednesday March 12, 2008

We recently acquired a carnival-like popcorn machine at work and it's just around the corner from my office. All day I hear the pop pop pop self-serve goodness, even at 9 PM at night. Beside the machine sits a bulk box of kernels. I wonder how long that box will last?

Day 67 - The Microsoft Home, Leaving a mark
Monday March 10, 2008

Today, some of us interns went on a tour of the Microsoft Home, located at the Executive Briefing Center on main campus. The home is supposed to present the possiblities of the convergence of technology in the home 5 to 10 years in the future. Even though it's full of tech, it's seemingly very transparent and very well integrated. Our tour guide, one of the PM's in the consumer prototyping and strategy group (the group responsible for creating the home), made some very human connections between the technology and the people who would live in the home.

Some photos, some articles, and some videos.

On another note, I have now officially contributed to the Windows code base! Haha. It's a milestone for me. Now, I prey I didn't break the build...

And oh, The Seventh Day sadness! *tears* *blows nose* need more tissue. I'm a sucker for these stories. Catch up, Charing.

And Scott has literally run off to LA LA land.

Calvin
Scott: what place are you talking about?

Scott
Awww you guys went to Estea? They used to be super good.
But there's a new joint that had sprung up in Richmond that goes for the same Taiwanese flavour as Estea, except its owned by a white guy! haha. He's got it done all right though!

Also, Microserfs is a super good book... until you get to jPod. ;)

Alex T.
=X

No spoilers. haha.

Charing
OMG, someone else is watching The Seventh Day too?!

I only started watching it last week. I'm getting there...slowly. I'm behind in my episodes. =P

I was thinking, kids these days will be growing up to be less patient and responsible - they don't have to rewind video tapes before returning them to the library or a friend!

If you borrowed my VHS tape and didn't have the decency to rewind it after watching it... grr grr...

Dan H.
I wonder if you'll find a bunch of old betamax players in the boys&girls club inventory too!

Alex T.
At the rate we go through cereal, no problem... we still have about seven weeks left here. And at 80-something cents a box, you can't go wrong! Hurray for coupons on top of sales.

Everyone can use an up-converting DVD player...?

Dan T.
re: 歲月風雲 beach...I remember that beach from the series! i think...

Dan H. asked the right question... are you guys going to able to finish allll of that cereal??? lol.

And just what are the Boys & Girls club going to do with dying technology?

Dan H.
Will you guys even finish all that cereal before you leave???
lol

Calvin
Yay, I finally made it into the history of Alex's Microsoft Intern days series. XD

Day 64 - UW @ Microsoft
Friday March 7, 2008

We had to have a photo of us with our UW logo emblazoned on the hallway wall at Microsoft.

UW @ Microsoft

We were wondering if we should send this photo to someone at UW just for kicks...

In fact, we should have a MS Interns group photo... hmmm...

Day 63 - Microsoft Research TechFest 2008
Thursday March 6, 2008

A whole year ago, I remember watching videos of PlayAnywhere table-top interactions, Microsoft Surface, and a whole bunch of other cool futuristic things that Microsoft was developing. Well, today, I attended Microsoft Research TechFest 2008 and got the chance to see and experience, in person, the progression of these technologies, as well as a whole list of many new ideas. I can't believe I get to be here at the heart of it all.

Wow. Some of these ideas were on our FYDP group's initial list of projects to pursue. Now, having seeing them developed by real researchers, I'm glad we didn't go down that route...

Too cool... too cool.
