Day 61 - The Seventh Day - EP. 9
Tuesday March 4, 2008

分開是為了等待重逢,
經歷過考驗的愛情,
才能牢固、
才是真愛的開始…

A little patience and trust goes a long way.

I find so many things to relate to from this series.

Day 60 - Microserfs
Monday March 3, 2008

I started reading Douglas Coupland's Microserf. It's a fascinating read.

Day 59 - Vancouver Day 2
Sunday March 2, 2008

The plan the night before was to go 飲早茶, but with the lateness of us actually heading to bed, we knew it wasn't going to happen. Sunday brunch at glowbal in Yaletown. I was amused watching Adrian and Calvin pulverize their Egg Benedicts with the liquidy egg running everywhere. Have some grace guys... grace... It's not exactly my ideal choice for brunch. Too expensive, and too far for the simple meal. Dinner could have been served.

Today was going to be a park/nature sight-seeing day. The first stop that caught our attention was the English Bay beach area. Too bad it was grey and cloudy.

Remember in The Drive of Life 歲月風雲 where the brothers were beating the crap out of each other at the beach?

English Bay

I've been incorporating people into my pano's lately. I kind of like the effect, but I need to work on it.

More Olympic monuments:

The area was very nice for taking a stroll, biking, jogging, or just for reading a book. So nice. So nice.

Back into the jeep and onwards to Stanley Park we go. Right, here's the jeep!

The evening was around the corner to we headed back to Richmond for Bubble Tea at the Richmond Public Market and then Taiwanese food for dinner at 臺灣美食 to wrap up our trip. Ahhh... yummy noodles, tofu and oyster.

Day 58 - Vancouver Day 1
Saturday March 1, 2008

First stop: Food! Lunch was at Kingspark Steak House Restaurant 京士柏西餐廳, in the same plaza as 100% Healthy Dessert. No, not steak for lunch, just a typical 茶餐廳. More Asian food. Mmmm... major deprived-ness? Then we hopped back into Calvin's Jeep and we were off to Aberdeen Centre 時代坊 - a true Chinese mall. Sweet. Oh yea, Calvin drives a jeep, like, a real jeep. He must be the only Asian guy to do so. It's awesome. More on that later.

Aberdeen Centre

Aberdeen Centre

At the Central Atrium, images of moving clouds, sky and space are projected onto the ceiling. Very nice. We observed that no one really goes into the stores at Aberdeen. People wander in the corridors, but never buying anything except at the food court and the massive two-level Japanese two-dollar store. The food court on the third floor is perpetually busy. Why is that? Sometimes we think its because they severely understaff to make it look like there's a lot of business. We lined up for an eternity for Frappé Bliss 雪花冰 - a Taiwanese shaved ice dessert. I had a Strawberry Romance because I'm a romantic kind of guy. har har. Okay, I love red.

We then proceed to watch Calvin's High School's Japanese class perform on stage while waiting for Scott to meet up with us. Twas interestingly entertaining...

Japanese class performance

With Scott together with us now, we all piled back into the awesome jeep and travelled to downtown Vancouver where we wandered the streets.

Countdown to Vancouver 2010

Dinner at some Japanese grill restaurant. What about dessert? We immediately travelled to Sweet Obsession where we sat at a table outside since it was full in the shop. With a slight temperature drop and minor breeze in the area, I decided to order a slice of warm toffee cake.

We then proceeded for a little night photography:

and some fun renacting the totem pole, amongst other things:

By this time, our hands were pretty much frozen, so we piled back into the jeep and off we went to Zephyr in the Sky for BBT. Strawberry (here's the red theme again) + Blueberry for me.

End Day 1 with more fiddling with Calvin's notebook. Zzzz...

Day 57 - Drive to Richmond, BC
Friday February 29, 2008

So here we are, safely arrived in Richmond, BC, where our colourful Canadian money is actually used. Home sweet home! (Well, Calvin's home. Thanks for having us!). First impressions: Everything is close by to Calvin's place in Richmond and so far, we haven't seen a non-Chinese person yet. That's no surprise after perusing the City of Richmond's data on population and demographics. Check out that division of ethnicity.

Events for the night included food, and more food. The first stop after waiting in Calvin's home for Calvin to return home (??) was dinner at Estea. It was a nice place with good atmosphere and good food. I believe I had a 沙爹牛肉炒河. BTW, all food photos are uploaded by Adrian to facebook. (No account? No photos! Hence, my photos are on Picasa... but they may be mirrored elsewhere... later... possibly...) Then we went to Calvin's weekend job dessert place called 100% Healthy Dessert 百分百甜品. It was another fine shop just a short travel away. I had a 木瓜南北杏燉雪耳. Mmmm... more good food (Catching a trend of this weekend's activities yet?). I found some photos of desserts from the San Francisco shop.

After that, it was back to Calvin's home to fiddle with his busted notebook hard drive and sleep. Zzz... Back up your data, people! Back up! As of right now, I have my life duplicated in multiple geo-spatially dispersed locations... just in case. Especially now that I've moved to a notebook as my primary system, I've gotten in the habit of storing things on external drives and making copies here and there since I don't have that much space internally anyway. I must re-iterate, the free Microsoft SyncToy utility is your friend here.

Le EeePC is cool. Le Rebel XT is small.
