| Are you all photographers? | |
| Alex T. | |
| I know! With the stories and photos of the D3 high ISO performance, I really want to try it out. I'll let you know if I get my hands on one ;)
+ Tim has a 50mm f/1.4 =D Nikon does have an old 50 mm f/1.2 manual focus lens. Canon had a 50mm f/0.95! Any combination of faster glass and higher ISO will allow us to see things we shouldn't see... whatever that means. But realistically, I'd rather get a D300 than a D3 because it has a pop-up flash for wireless iTTL without another master commander (I use wireless flash A LOT), an optional battery grip that doesn't require removing the battery door and battery, and it's.. yea.. I'll stop now... But really, there are some very opinionated people on the topic of using a flash... they would rather not take a picture than to have use a flash because the picture "looks bad"... Instead, I think they just need to learn proper lighting technique and stop complaining. And I want to see this super dense 640x480 3" LCD in person! OK, I'll really stop now.

| D300? Nah... I want to give the D3 a spin at ISO 26,500 (or whatever the power of 2 is) and a 50mm f/1.4. Nikon doesn't make anything faster, right (like the Canon 50mm f/1.2 or the 85mm f/1.2)? | |

| Ok, stop imagining me with a pink eeePC. At least I don't have a pink DS like Kenneth >.> | |
| Alex T. | |
| Calvin, I have a very vivid imagination ;)
Richard, I got the D80 just before I left for Redmond. It's no D200, but it's very close. All it's lacking is a metal body, CF slots, and a feel-good shutter release (amonst other things.. haha). D300? =D And I do love fruitiness =)
| Calvin | |
| Omg Alex. Can you IMAGINE me sitting in the middle of DC with a Pink eeePC? I like my black one thank you very mouch. =p | |
| Dan T. | |
| I like the Declaration of Romantic Intent. Well done lol. | |
| Katie | |
| Happy Valentine's Day =) | |
| Richard | |
| Since when did you upgrade to a D80? No D200? :P | |
| Richard | |
| A simple recipe is just a chicken breast dusted in salt and pepper, pan fried and then covered in a fruit juice reduction? | |

| Ya, Why can't a guy be given an eeePC on Valentine's Day?!
That would be awesome! | |

| Day 42 - Valentine's Day Edition
Thursday February 14, 2008 Green: The New Color Of love
"It says I want you. Need you. Love you. Life red never could." Ouch... my favourite red... *tear* Give her what she really wants this Valentine's Day
So... who wants one? And why can't someone give him what he really wants this Valentines' Day? Calvin, you should have gotten this one! Just say it like it is
There's nothing like a little bureaucratic nightmare to say I Love You. Happy Valentine's Day, Everyone =)

| Day 41 - Chicken
Wednesday February 13, 2008 I need more ideas for how to cook our chicken. We've gone through drumsticks, thighs and breasts. There are also the ribs and bones for soup. The limited random items that we have here include soy sauce, salt, sugar, pepper, starch, glutinous rice flour, peanut butter and lots of random fruit juices. The cranberry sauce from the fruit juice did make a pleasant dip for our baked chicken thighs... perhaps I shall experiment with more fruity flavours... oh the possibilities!

| Day 39 - Keeping tabs on the happenings
Monday February 11, 2008
Shoot. That's cold (and snowy). I'm missing out on the frostiness! Today on the shuttle on the way back home from work, I got fortune cookies courtesy of the bus driver and the shuttle service. My fortune: Microsoft advertisement. There's no free lunch! On another note, this Pro Dev for Eng program is a real pain in the neck. On another UW-related note, tuition fees are on the rise yet again (starting Fall 2008). Ugh...

| Day 38 - Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000
Sunday February 10, 2008 All webcams are so not made equal. The Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 that we got for our FYDP is super amazing: multi-element Carl Zeiss glass lens, high resolution sensor and autofocus. Hopefully this great image quality will help us out as we put it to the test in our project. In between capturing video with our webcam and pouring through random sample code, I've been borrowing it for Skype. By using this model webcam with its higher resolution sensor, Skype will pipe High Quality Video through to the other party (640x480 @ 30 FPS). Of course, this all requires a speedy Internet upload. It typically streams at around 450 kbps when I use it. Everyone that's seen my video feed has definitely noticed the quality improvement over typical webcams and standard streams. I'm considering getting a few of these for myself while I'm here in the U.S. It's so much cheaper here than in Canada, through this premium product still carries a premium price after discount... you get what you pay for. I've also been considering getting some SanDisk Extreme III 8 GB SDHC cards for my D80. Again, the price difference and shipping fees (many times, shipping from online shopping within the U.S. is free or minimal) make it worthwhile. Having Visa Check Cards connected to an American bank account is also a great convenience. No more conversions and fees through the CAD credit card!

| And let's do a quick update dump here before my New Text Document.txt overfills...
Day 37 - Shopping bike trip Saturday February 9, 2008 The gentle rain come down overnight from Friday to Saturday and it started to clear up in the morning. That means a good day for biking! After lunch, I cleaned up my bike from all the random stickers and protruding plastic that I didn't notice before my first trip out and headed out down Bellevue-Redmond Road (Bel-Red). Well, "up" was more like it. Heading south-west on Bel-Red is uphill all the way. All the way. It must have taken me 15 - 20 minutes to make it up to 24th St. I then turned right onto 24th for an exhilarating downhill dive. This is fun! I thought to myself. But on the way back... oh dear... I dropped into Sears to try to cross a few items off my shopping list. I found Energizer rechargeable NiMH batteries for only $11.97 for a pack of four AA or AAA. In Canada, Wal-mart sells these for $15.64 and I thought they were ok cheap there. In fact, I checked online and here in the US, Wal-Mart sells these batteries for only $9.87 per pack! What a steal! Plus, sales tax is only 8.9% here. It's quite unfortunate that we don't have a Wal-Mart nearby. the closest one is almost half an hour away. It's also unfortunate that I've already stocked up on NiMH batteries for my Nikon SB-800 Speedlights, or else I would be picking up a few packs. With not much else catching my eye, I proceeded to bike across the street to Fred Meyer to compare prices of the batteries and to check out their grocery department (I know... other people go bananas shopping for cool clothes, and I'm excited to go biking to explore real bananas... What can I say? I'm a down-to-earth necessities kind of guy who's preparing for my future while fuelling expensive hobbies). I was glad to know that I didn't need to head back to Sears for a refund of my newly acquired AAA batteries because Fred Meyer had them a tad more expensive. But at the same time, I was disappointed that I didn't find them cheaper! I did however find some cheap fruits and vegetables. Hurrah. I'm happy. It was time to face the monstrous hill back up 24th. I powered up the hill since my legs were now fresh and I enjoyed a super prolonged exhilarating trip down Bel-Red. It reminded me of the time my brother, Tim and I went speeding down Edmonton Drive in T.O. Unlike Toronto and waterloo, about 99% of the people who ride a bike here actually wear a helmet. That's awesome.
