| It's not all fun and games here, but there is quite a bit of it outside of work. The Microsoft Intern Program does a great job of getting us together and organizing cool events to show us the city while we're here.
Many interns do what's necessary to get the work done: staying late, heading back to work, checking in on weekends, etc. As long as the work is done, it doesn't really matter if you're there at 7:30 AM or 10:30 AM. Downtown Seattle has crazy steep roads that would make anyone freak out if it started snowing or icing up. It is as scary as progressing up and down a roller coaster. Seriously. It is insane. I wish there was a little CNY madness out here... I miss it.
| Charing | |
| haha glass blowing. That's definitely something different. | |
| Dan T. | |
| Raymond: ok, cool, thx
Nice parking spot, what is that, a 30 degree angle? lol And glass blowing looks fun. I think Play! is playing Toronto at some point soon.
| Raymond | |
| you have all the fun Alex
I'm not really sure what to expect but I'm supposed to report there at 8pm so I suppose the event starts just a little bit after that and I meant madness in general cause it is CNY afterall lol

| Day 27 - Intern Event #2: Glass Blowing
Wednesday January 30, 2008 As Adrian put it: It was a hot, steamy session full of blowing. Heck, might as well add in long rigid rods and balls to the description. That pretty much sums up the company-planned activities for the afternoon: Photos: No kidding. What were you thinking? It was a great social event as the actual glass blowing part took only two minutes to complete. The rest of the time was spent chatting with other interns in the other room while waiting for our turns at spinning molten glass and getting roasted alive.

| Day 26 - Candy
Tuesday January 29, 2008 The shuttle bus that I took today had candy for its passengers. Earlier in the term, a shuttle van that we were on had chocolate bars. Sweet... Please excuse my shrinking updates during the work week... It's either due to the fact that all the interesting stuff happens at work, which I will not disclose, or there is no interesting event.

| Day 25 - Snow
Monday January 28, 2008 The snow that was supposed to be dumped on the area this weekend didn't come until this morning. There was a good inch or two of fluffy white stuff everywhere. It was a beautiful sight, yet treacherous for most unseasoned drivers here. The buildings as work were emptier than usual as many people came in late, left early, or didn't come in at all and just RAS'ed in from home. Interns unfortunately (or fortunately ;) ) don't (normally) get smart cards to RAS in. I think the unlucky ones get to RAS in.

| Day 24 - Lost
Sunday January 27, 2008 If anyone finds my Left Glove's better half (a.k.a. the Right Glove) please help them be reunited. Valentines' Day (i.e. cold February weather) is fast approaching - it pains me (physically) to see them apart. ='(

| Since I have some time before I head out again for this weekend's adventures, let's catch up with this past week's activities... I really need to do these as they happen... but anyway, here we go:
Day 23 - A fishy day in Downtown Seattle Saturday January 26, 2008 Originally, the plan was to go to enjoy PLAY! A Video Game Symphony at the Benaroya Hall performed by the Seattle Symphony because we thought we could get Campus Club discounts at $10 per ticket. Unfortunately, when we got there with our Campus Club application forms in hand, they told us that this particular show would not be selling discounted tickets. Darn. There goes that idea. Saad and Mobeen did pay the original price of $60 per ticket to enjoy the supposedly excellent performance. The rest of us, Adrian, Kevin, Glen , Fred, Nick and myself decided to explore downtown Seattle once again.
First stop: Pike Place Market - fresh Fish and other random shops. Above ground, there was fresh fish and produce, flowers and other knick knacks. It was extremely busy and bustling with activity. There was also the first-ever Starbucks coffee shop.
Below ground, or "Down Under", there were other little random shops in two or three floors below. The hill-y terrain definitely allows for this underground world.
Second stop: The Seattle Aquarium live Fish and other moving (an non-moving) creatures. As Microsoft employees, we get a Microsoft Prime discount card which entitles us to many great deals and discounts at many retailers, restaurants and attractions. Armed with our Prime cards, we managed to score $5 tickets to the Aquarium. Sweet! I've never been to an aquarium before, so this was an interesting experience.
Third stop: The Fisherman House for lunch - cooked fish. We couldn't help but to keep the fishy theme going. It was the first time that I ever ordered fish and chips. It was typical...fishy and chipy? While waiting for Saad and Mobeen to finish their PLAY!, the rest of proceed to the Retail Core once again. Shopping seems to be a common theme every weekend... So earlier in the month, Raymond wanted to know how massive these shopping places were in the US. In the Retail Core, everything is just... massive: multiple-storey Nordstrom, Macy's, Gap, Abercrombie & Fitch, etc, etc. Most of the retail stores were scattered throughout the area in their own buildings. The one indoor shopping centre that we went to was Pacific Place, the place we wanted to go to a few weeks earlier, but didn't have the chance to go to because we couldn't find a parking spot. Here's the interior of the Pacific Place:
