Issued by Environment Canada

Snowfall warning for: Waterloo - Wellington
Issued at 5:30 PM EST WEDNESDAY 21 NOVEMBER 2007

..10 TO 20 CENTIMETRES OF SNOW LIKELY BY THURSDAY NIGHT..

A LOW PRESSURE AREA OVER SOUTHERN ILLINOIS WILL BRING THE FIRST WINTER STORM OF THE SEASON TONIGHT AND THURSDAY. WHILE RAIN HEAVY AT TIMES IS FALLING OVER MOST OF SOUTHERN ONTARIO THERE ARE SIGNS THAT A CHANGE IS IMMINENT. AN OFF DUTY ENVIRONMENT CANADA METEOROLOGIST REPORTED WET SNOW ON HIGHWAY 400 SOUTH OF BARRIE AROUND 5.15 PM. THIS IS THE FIRST SIGN THAT A CHANGEOVER TO SNOW IS STARTING TO OCCUR. AS THE TEMPERATURE FALLS TO NEAR FREEZING THE RAIN WILL QUICKLY CHANGE OVER TO WET SNOW AND ICE PELLETS THIS EVENING AND THEN SNOW HEAVY AT TIMES LATER TONIGHT. NEAR 10 CENTIMETRES OF SNOW IS EXPECTED TO FALL TONIGHT WITH AN ADDITIONAL 10 CENTIMETRES TO FOLLOW ON THURSDAY. HIGHER SNOW AMOUNTS ARE EXPECTED TO FALL OVER HIGHER TERRAIN. REGIONS ACROSS EASTERN ONTARIO INCLUDING OTTAWA HAVE ALREADY RECEIVED SNOW FROM A PREVIOUS DISTURBANCE AND WILL CONTINUE TO SEE SNOW FALL TONIGHT AND INTO THURSDAY. TOTAL SNOWFALL AMOUNTS NEAR 15 CENTIMETRES BY THURSDAY NIGHT ARE POSSIBLE AS THE WINTER STORM SLOWLY MOVES EAST ACROSS THE LOWER LAKES TONIGHT INTO NEW ENGLAND BY THURSDAY NIGHT. THE GREATER TORONTO AREA WILL BE VERY CLOSE TO THE SOUTHERN EDGE OF THE HEAVY SNOW BUT IS STILL EXPECTED TO RECEIVE SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW MIXED WITH ICE PELLETS. ACTUAL TOTAL SNOWFALL AMOUNTS WILL DEPEND ON HOW LONG IT WILL TAKE FOR THE RAIN AND ICE PELLETS TO TURN OVER TO SNOW. LATEST INDICATIONS SHOW 5 TO 10 CM OF SNOW AND ICE PELLETS BY THURSDAY MORNING IN GREATER TORONTO AREA FOLLOWED BY ADDITIONAL 5 TO 10 CENTIMETRES OF ALL SNOW THURSDAY. REGIONS CLOSE TO THE LAKE MAY SEE LESSER AMOUNTS DUE TO SLIGHTLY HIGHER TEMPERATURES. TRAVELLERS SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR SIGNIFICANT DETERIORATION IN DRIVING CONDITIONS WITH HAZARDOUS WINTER DRIVING CONDITIONS LIKELY OVERNIGHT AND THURSDAY. VERY LOW VISIBILITY AT TIMES IN HEAVY SNOW IS POSSIBLE. FOR FURTHER DETAIL OVER THE REST OF SOUTHERN ONTARIO PLEASE READ THE SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT RELEASED BY ENVIRONMENT CANADA.

PLEASE REFER TO THE LATEST PUBLIC FORECASTS FOR FURTHER DETAILS.

"An off duty Environment Canada meteorologist" reports about the falling wet snow and gets reported in a weather warning. Maybe it's just me, but I find that kinda cool!

It may be true that there could be more. But that doesn't mean that a little is okay. Here, it's not about the magnitude that defines the line.

And I really need to change this message box theme again... hmmm. What shall I scribble next?

Richard
Oh Alex... you're overreacting... I could link to a news site with more vulgarity and racism in it (FOX News anyone?).

Alex T.
Okay guys. For the last time, please, a little sensitivity sanity check before posting anymore "entertainment" on this university-hosted site. I still need to get my degree from this educational institution.

Thanks,
Alex

Richard
That was great. Hahahaha.

And if anyone needs some short study/lab break/entertainment, here you go:

Funny enough, the British recently launched Skynet

End of the world? I think so.

You Waterloo peeps, best of luck, hang in there!

Alex T.
Yes. And that Terminator is called ECE 327.

Richard
Must've been the Terminator.

Alex T.
Yea... help...

The sky(net.uwaterloo.ca) is falling! The sky(net.uwaterloo.ca) is falling!

Raymond
curse you two!!! lol

Timbo
I second that, except over assignments. =(

Alex T.
I would definitely much rather be at the Santa Claus parade on Sunday than be slaving away in the lab =(

Raymond
Thos still in Toronto on Sunday come to the Santa Claus parade, it's starts at 1230pm and I will be manning the Bloor and Mannging Ave intersection come one come all

Scott
The iPod Touches have been getting away with that for some time now ;)

Tim L.
That's interesting, although shouldn't there be a log-out address?

I hope your network access log-in isn't connected to UW-ACE, mail, and other apps, I doubt it is anyways.

*high five* for getting your graphical diff, have fun with VHDL. What other HDL do you guys have to deal with anyways?

Alex T.
Hmmm. This is disturbing.

We're in an E2 lab right now and when we opened up our notebooks and fired up a browser, we were immediately allowed access to the Internet without logging in! A quick check of uw-wireless reveals that we're connected with other people's accounts (from some other faculty too)

I wonder who's connected with my account? =/

Alex T.
Speaking of labs...

This is the most beautiful image I have seen in a long time:
Kirsch Edge Detector - Diff

With this image, I can now call it a day and face the VHDL battle again tomorrow morning.

For those who don't realize what this is, this is a graphical diff of our ECE 327 Kirsch Edge Detector project high level model output image and the reference model output image. (think Photoshop filter, but implemented in hardware, specifically, an FPGA)

Pixel-perfect beauty :)

I just stay home. My roommates are good this year, so I have no incentive to go anywhere else. Haha, ye you guys spend so much time in the labs this term!

Alex T.
That's what I told Dan yesterday. I lost faith in DC. I automatically head toward the E2 labs now, unless it's in the morning. Either that, or I head home. Where do you go?

Calvin
It's cuz DC's so packed this term, I don't have the motivation to go anymore. What about you?
