Agreed that non accounting print servers will be moved off of Watstar by Sept 1, 2000. Erick will assist Mike involving a Polaris to NT print problem.
Erick: LDAP project. Erick is pursuing a joint LDAP project between EC and IST.
Windows 2000. EC is tentatively planning to convert the existing AIX "apprentice lab" to Windows 2000, for September 1, 2000. This will remain a limitted access lab, primarily for running the IDEAS software.
Bernie: problems with "popper" and quotas on Solaris. Further tests suggest that UWashington "ipopd" (part of imap distribution) does not have this problem.
Mike: "engfile" performance questions. Further tests show engfile under load copying a 25MB file from /home to /tmp in 3.1 seconds. Mikes tests from his Windows 95 client show the same copy taking 7 to 12 seconds, while a copy to an NT machine on the same subnet taking 3 to 7 seconds. Mikes' machine goes through a router to get to engfile, which might explain some of the difference, but an NFS test from a Sun 250 through a router to engfile only takes 4 seconds. Tests on a 166MHz Windows 95 machine show engfile being faster than the local hard disk.
