Discussion:
- Erick: Y2K issues with Unix. Solaris prior to 4.1.4, AIX prior to
4.2 and Ultrix have Y2K problems, and must be upgraded/replaced.
- Erick: CNAG update: Possibility of central funding of campus wiring delayed until July at earliest.
- Erick: EC is considering installing an E3 building switch.
- Erick: CNAG update: IP to the home is not on the horizon. IST
is considering a local ISP to provide V.90
- Martin: Campus cabling committee. Draft document gone to UCIST.
BICSI course this summer ($1000 plus upgrades) - 1 or 2 people per
faculty. EC has a new cable labeller available for use. EC is getting
an advanced cable tested ($8K to $10K). Under the new cable guidelines,
one must either maintain BICSI certification, or be supervised by someone
who is (Martin for example) or contract out wiring. Everything must be
documented. IST would prefer 1 or 2 people per faculty maximum. This is
all motivated by a Plant Ops concern about who owns what cable.
- Bruce: Phase II. Overview. When can we move to phase II. Desire
to keep Phase II and Windows 2000 as separate planning issues. Erick is
making all development both 95 and NT compatible, and will keep 95 supported
as long as possible.
- Bruce: Plan 1 meeting each for Phase II, printing, and file server issues.
