Agenda:
Waterloo Polaris Phase II discussion
Discussion:
- Erick: May 1 fast boot requirement. Slow boot for privileged users
only. Shutdown to DOS will not be possible. Problem with ACCT in
Win95 DOS Window is not solveable. System administrators must run ACCT
before starting Win95, or have a second machine.
- Erick: GUI login under development. A database lookup will find a
users home directory, authentication method etc. Database for Engineering
has been setup. Need a way for departmental sysadmins to modify database,
and for users to change some entries. Currently LDAP on freebsd. IST looking
at Netscape and Entrust.
- update - NT public access is possible (known to be done) (In other words,
it is possible to set up an NT server as an application server, and not
require a userid for everyone on the server)
- Bernie: will test out CAS on ece and report back.
- Gina discussed as remote authentication option for NT.
- Kevin: Advised that Systems Design has some Watstar server based
printers connected which will require a Phase II solution.
- Bruce: Phase II print solution must cover all existing Watstar printer
needs, both accounting and non accounting systems.
- Disk quotas for N: drives desired from all departments for next
meeting.
Next meeting:
Thursday, May 6, 1999, 1:30pm, CPH-2375.
