Virus Scanning on Waterloo Polaris

A virus has arrived which sneaks past the Waterloo Polaris disk protection.  Discussion focused on how to treat workstations and infected users.

Bruce tried to have Norton Antivirus (NAV) scan all home directories overnight but it crashed (95) or got nowhere (W2K over a weekend).

NAV was doing continuous virus scanning until a few months ago, but then it became too slow and there were no known virus threats (thanks to W.Polaris write protection), so continuous scanning was turned off.

Now Ray is investigating enabling continuous virus scanning (NAV), especially if it can be tuned to only scan on file writes as this would not hamper performance as much as if virus scanning were enabled on reads too.
