  • What is my email account, and how do I access it?

All students who started in Fall 2010 or later have a mailservices account, which is provided to you through the Information Systems and Technology department (IST). However, Engineering Computing still provides support for the Engineering faculty. Those students who have an "Engmail" account are gradually being transferred to mailservices' servers. When this change is being made, you will be notified via email.

Students can recieve mail sent from both username@uwaterloo.ca and username@mailservices.uwaterloo.ca.

As Engmail is being phased out, we recommend that students do not give out their email as username@engmail.uwaterloo.ca anymore.

Your email inbox can be accessed at www.nexusmail.uwaterloo.ca.

    How does email forwarding work?

Email forwarding is done through WatIam. Through there, you can whether or not you want your emails sent to your MyWaterloo inbox, or to an external inbox (such as Gmail or Hotmail).

To do this, go to WatIam, enter your Quest username and password, then click on "Update Profile". There will be a field to change your forwarding address.

I'm having issues with spam. How do I change the settings?

Log into your MyWaterloo account at www.nexusmail.uwaterloo.ca. Click on "SpamAssassin" from the options on the left menu. Click on "mailservices" at the top. There will be a chart of different options that you can set. The first value that you can input is for "required_hits", which is a limit on the number of indicators a message must have before it is marked as spam. The default number is 5; higher numbers allow for more emails to go through, whereas a lower number will block more emails from going through.

If you are having issues with too much spam, change this number to something lower than 5.

I am not getting emails. What do I do?

    1. Check that your emails are being forwarded correctly through WatIam.
    2. Turn down your spam filter settings by going through MyWaterloo > SpamAssassin > required_hits (as discussed above)
    3. If the mail that is lost is typically from the same people, add their emails to the "whitelist", which can be accessed through the SpamAssassin settings in MyWaterloo.
