Introduction

Why is Exchange important?

Engineering expertise is no longer confined by national boundaries in the way it was in the past. Through modern communication technology, ideas, intellectual property, designs and processes, as well as the capital for their implementation, move easily all over the world. Trade in natural resources and heavy manufactured goods has given way to engineering products and services with sophisticated technical and intellectual content.

Any Canadian engineering graduate who understands and appreciates the culture, language and methods of at least one country across the world is at a definite advantage in the global trading economy.

The expanded academic and work place opportunities available to UW engineering students through our exchange agreements with other institutions around the world provide an enriched educational experience that cannot be achieved by on-campus study alone. They are a vital component in the preparation of graduates to face the realities of trade and engineering in the twenty-first century.
