Hi
Flying into Mumbai was the first time I could really see the city scape. Of the three big cities this was the most progressive, with plenty of high rises dotted throughout the city between the shanty towns.
As for the no traffic, well a couple of days before we arrived a train of militant Hindus were attacked and set on fire about 300 miles north of Mumbai. In protest of the attack the right wing Hindus called a strike and all shops closed. Not only shops, but taxis too. At the airport we had to sneak our stuff upstairs to arrivals and get an expensive cab ride into the city where there was always the chance of getting pelted with rocks as had so many of the city buses who ventured out that day. This was the third time we arrived to a semi street deserted city.
We arrived at the Metro Palace and met up with Phil's dad.
The next day we headed to their coconut plantation out in the country and spent a couple of days relaxing. I was hopeing to go swimming in the Indian ocean but it was too polluted for my liking. We returned to Mumbai for two nights and then I caught my flight to Frankfurt (at 3am).
Phil and his Dad left at 7am, one for London, the other for Toronto.
Well I guess this is the end of the trip. I hope everyone found some interest or humour in my postings. I arrive back on Sunday and will be in to work Monday morning. See you all then.
Now to find that Frankfurt postcard I promised Uli.
Martin
