About Me

A picture of me taken in 2006.
me

My name is Peter Feiner and I am 22 years old. I was born in Montreal, Quebec. When I was two years old, I moved to London, Ontario. I lived in London for 15 years. The year I turned 18, I moved to Waterloo, Ontario where I now attend university.

My interests include music, rock climbing, playing squash, and reading.

Programming

I have enjoyed computer programming since I was in the sixth grade. I started with QBasic. In the eighth grade, my teacher introduced me to HTML; I loved HTML and spent a lot of time with it.

In high school, I spent time learning Microsoft's Visual Basic (VB). Because of how quickly I could create an application, I really enjoyed VB. When I tried to learn other languages, I was put off because of how little 100 lines of code seemed to do. I worked for one of my Uncles, writing VB code. When I worked at AXA Insurance as a computer programmer (first as a co-op student, then a full-time summer employee), I broadened my programming horizons. I developed software using obscure technologies. I now code in the following languages: C++, C, Python, Perl, and Java. I am familiar with the Motorola 68000 and MIPS assembly languages. I also think that Scheme is nifty.

School

I study Software Engineering (SE) at the University of Waterloo (UW). I worked for General Electric Healthcare for two terms and Autodesk for one term.

I'm just starting my 4B term. This past fall, I worked for Google in Mountain View, California. In the past, I've done three internships at Google; one at Autodesk in Montreal, Quebec; and two at General Electric in London, Ontario.

Music

I have played guitar for 7 years; I started playing 12 years ago, but I quit from month 1 until year 5. My Dad and the Internet have been invaluable resources in teaching me the guitar.

I play blues guitar. I also play some folk.
