(4 marks) It has been suggested that physical exercise is one of the best ways of managing stress. Explain why this makes sense given your knowledge of what stress is.
You should indicate that stress is a physiological response, or a fight and flight response (1). Because of this, stress readies the body for action. (1 mark for any of the following ideas) It shunts blood to muscles, increases muscle tension, increases blood pressure and heart rate, increases metabolism, decreases the ability to sleep, increases adrenalin. You should state 3 of the physical effects of stress for 3 marks.
Hint: "given your knowledge of what stress is" is a hint that you should give a definition of stress. The rest of your solution should concentrate on the effects of stress that might be relevant for physical exercise. For example, stating any of the psychological effects of stress would not be relevant given this question. Also stating any other effects of exercise unrelated to stress would not be relevant.
