WEEF Helps Fund Turtlebots

February 18, 2016

ME 597: Autonomous Mobile Robotics remains one of the most popular technical electives for Mechatronics students, thanks in no small part to the hands-on experience of programming real robots afforded by WEEF's support of the lab equipment. Over the years, WEEF and the MME Department have shared the cost of adding a total of 12 Turtlebots, update 8 netbooks and installing a custom 2 camera indoor motion tracking system in the SDC. This has allowed Prof. Waslander to grow the enrollment from 30 to over 80 students, and to make the course a permanent component of the Mechantronics program. He's also been able to invite a handful of enthusiastic ECE and SYDE to the course as well, and will continue to handle as many students as are interested in the topic, thanks to the great support from WEEF over the years.
