BidForGood

1

Before the pandemic, charities would often hold auctions, raising funds for a specific cause. Auctions were seen as an efficient tool as items often sold for over the asking price. With COVID-19, this method of fundraising has become obsolete. The objective of this project is to create an open ended, community platform which exists as an online community, where auctions can take place for any charity. As a user, you can list a product to sell, linking the item to an organization where all proceeds will be donated. People who wish to support a good cause, can bid on these items as they would have in a physical setting. Since the money goes directly to the charity, buyers trust the site. To implement this design, a development framework such as Django will be utilized, while integrating Stripe’s payment API for order processing and a MySQL database for storing information. Competitors include enterprise software for single charities or community platforms where only the charities can list a product. The main advantage of this idea over these competitors is the fact that it’s an open ended platform where anyone can join and sell an item for any charity - essentially, a digital marketplace.

EyeFly

2

There are approximately 6,000 Canadian provincial ground search and rescue (SAR) operations executed annually on foot by trained volunteer personnel. The process of locating and rescuing distressed individuals is often lengthy and risky. EyeFly is an easy-to-operate drone that scouts for lost individuals in areas that pose risks to SAR personnel. EyeFly utilizes mounted cameras and sensors to navigate and scan large areas, then analyzes images before communicating to dispatchers the real-time location data and live video footage of the stranded individuals upon detection.

SoundCircle

3

Research has proven time and again that music is a component in our drive to connect and strengthen social bonds, boosting oxytocin levels and enhancing intangible human experiences. The goal of SoundCircle is to provide a hub for people to come together and share their tastes in music while discovering their likes and dislikes. SoundCircle leverages data mining and machine-learning algorithms to analyze a user’s musical preferences, provide new song recommendations from these associations, and help them discover new friends and forge lasting relationships.
