Smart Gym

56

Over the pandemic, many Canadians purchased gym equipment to exercise in isolation; however, many lack experience or access to personal trainers to exercise safely. The objective of this project is to design a system that reduces the risk of injuries related to gym activities. Our solution is to develop smart gym gloves with sensors to analyze motion and health data. Then, provide users with insights such as form evaluation, injury risk assessment and routine management. The application will also manage routines to address injury vulnerabilities.

KitStarter

57

KitStarter is an entry-level, friendly approach to remotely controlling homemade electronics. Using standardized microcontrollers and an easy-to-use web interface, hobbyists can control their projects with GPIO signals across WIFI and ethernet connections. KitStarter supports a variety of ways to set up a board and is configurable on-the-fly through the network. This solution is completely local which allows for lower latencies and gives the user complete control over how their data and devices are protected. Our goal is to alleviate the more tedious side of hardware control, allowing for hobbyist to spin up new boards and new ideas at the snap of their finger.

OneRing

58

More than half of North Americans fail to meet the weekly recommended 150 minutes of physical activity, and report a lack of motivation & time as key reasons - something no wearable in the market currently addresses. OneRing is a smart ring that addresses this by measuring accurate health and activity data to offer realistic and personalized goals for the wearer in a small, comfortable, and low-cost form factor. It can be comfortably worn all day and display recorded data and suggestions on a smartphone.

TripPlanr

59

Traveling the world can be one of the most fulfilling and enlightening experiences in one’s lifetime. However, planning such trips can be extremely tedious and may even disincentivize people from traveling at all. People often do not have the time to research and plan for future trips. TripPlanr simplifies this process and tailors a trip to a user with targeted tourist attractions and hotspots based on a short survey of the user’s desired destination, interests, budget, and other heuristics.

Schedule Management As A Service

60

In the workforce there is a need for simple meeting coordination and scheduling. This project will be a software system that handles scheduling responsibilities. This abstraction layer on-top of a calendar allows users to: book time with users via links, prevents scheduling conflicts, automatically limits number of meetings based on preferences, blocks off focus time, intelligently optimizes their schedule and seamlessly handles rescheduling and pre-meeting reminders. This service will have authentication and provide users with a dashboard for configuring calendars, availability, focus time, and reminders.

Smart Cane

61

Current assistive technology for people with seeing disabilities is limited in many situations, including detecting incoming traffic, detecting obstacles above ground, navigating through a crowd, and navigating to/in an unfamiliar location. This project addresses the difficulties mentioned above and provides better mobility assistance by developing a smart white cane equipped with Lidar sensors working together with a mobile phone application.

SmartSwitch

62

SmartSwitch is a ‘smart’ EVSE (electric vehicle supply equipment) which manages the simultaneous battery charging of multiple electric vehicles. SmartSwitch considers a variety of factors, such as current state of charge (SOC) and user travel patterns to determine the charging order of multiple EVs. Users can use the SmartSwitch web application to change vehicle information or update travel patterns to ensure that their cars are charged to the appropriate SOC whenever they need it. Charge your car the smart way and choose SmartSwitch!
