ARrangeMe

Organizing spaces efficiently can be a complicated task as proportions, shapes, weight, and fragility of an item must be accounted for. Under-utilization of spaces causes large financial losses to the transportation and storage industries each year. ARrangeMe is an android application that helps optimize space utilization by using sorting algorithms and augmented reality. The application allows users to scan and measure spaces and items and then generate the best possible packaging strategy, which is then provided to the user in the form of a 3D render.

While social isolation and loneliness were prevalent prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the recent efforts to combat the virus through social distancing measures have exacerbated an already serious problem. Our proposed mobile application attempts to introduce a novel way of combating mental health issues by reducing the barriers of finding someone to eat with, without being in person. This is achieved by a video chat application that uses a recommendation engine to pair users with similar interests to share a meal through video chat.

PetCare with Artificial Inteligence
65
There is an increasing number of families choosing to keep pets as their members. People often worry about them during the day or when they are away. This project is to watch over pets when their owners are not at home. The objective of this project is to design a smart camera that could monitor and study pets’ activities and movements at home to detect and alert them to unusual and potentially dangerous behaviours. AI PetCare utilizes ultrasonic sensors, heat sensors, and cameras to collect data on the pets’ activities such as movement patterns. The data is used to train the machine learning models that analyze and learn about the pets’ movements to build profiles for them. When unusual behaviour is detected, AI PetCare would notify the owner and take corresponding actions. The main advantage of this design is that it keeps the activity logs of pets, learns from the logs, and detects any abnormal activities, which helps forecast physical or psychological illness and prevent pets from getting lost.

Raudio is a real-time spatial audio synthesis system targeting headphone playback. Traditional stereo audio is produced using speakers as the reference playback system, resulting in poor spatial effect when directly listened through headphones. Aiming to resolve this issue, Raudio exploits the principle of binaural audio synthesis with dynamic head tracking. Benefiting from the customized computing framework with hardware accelerators, Raudio can provide a realistic spatial audio effect with low latency and power consumption.

TravelGo
67
Travelling the world, experiencing new cultures and communities are best done with others. However, not everyone has the leisure of travelling alongside someone adventurous sharing the same path. TravelGo is a travel-planning application designed to create a community of like-minded people inspired to travel the world. It is an online village where people can socialize, make new friends, form groups, find travel partners and share thoughts and tips to help others start their journey.

With the advent of augmented and virtual reality systems, there is a growing need for hands-free controls as current options are not suitable in certain environments. Thwype’s objective is to utilize the tongue as human input to augment the functionality of these existing devices. This new tongue input system would cover the weaknesses of and work well with existing input options, as well as offer an alternative control that differentiates it from conventional options.

Distraction-Free Driving
69
Approximately 25% of fatal vehicle accidents in the US are due to distracted driving. The objective of this project is to notify the driver when he has lost his focus on the road. A plausible approach is to use brainwave sensors to monitor the activity of the brain to sense its focus level. The main advantage of collecting data with brainwave sensors is that they could be much more accurate and easier to work with at an affordable cost than most of the existing approaches.

BioBlink
70
Dry eye syndrome is a widespread issue partly attributed to infrequent blinking, mainly from spending long hours in front of computers and other devices. To address this problem, BioBlink is a small and lightweight device that identifies and alleviates behaviours that cause dry eye syndrome. By using optical sensors to track blinking frequency, nonintrusive haptic feedback ensures a healthy blinking interval is maintained.
