Quietr - Active Noise Control for Rooms
6
Insufficient sleep is associated with a range of adverse health effects, including cardiovascular disease, depression, and diminished well-being. Since many people live in shared accommodations or densely populated areas, urban noise and loud sounds from roommates are common barriers to getting enough sleep. This project aims to design a system that can characterize sound waves using a noise control algorithm and output the appropriate out-of-phase wave to reduce noise. The goal is to lessen the impact of incoming ambient noise for one target during sleep.

Scootonamous

Electric scooters have become an increasing popular method to get around campus and the city. However, users of shared scooters are faced with the issue of unknown availability because other users may not leave scooters at a reasonable location. The objective of this project is to design an E-scooter that will be capable of autonomous operation along pre-defined routes to return to a pre-set hub location or user. Because the scooters no longer have to be manually collected, the availability of E-Scooters will greatly improve.

ProtoFast Controller
8
Many systems in the factory automation, robotics, and media production industries require customized interfaces, like controllers, to operate their systems effectively. To avoid the complexities and resources required for a custom interface, the ProtoFast Controller provides a set of individual physical peripheral components that can be easily assembled to form a fully customized controller that communicates with any software project. With interchangeable modules, the developer is able to mix and match components for their project, and prototype configurations without designing a controller from scratch.

Arrows

Navigating unfamiliar indoor spaces can be challenging and time-consuming. Current solutions suffer from inaccurate localizations, misleading routing, or outdated maps. The objective of Arrows is to locate and guide users in complex indoor spaces through augmented reality. Utilizing landmark image similarity and localization algorithms, Arrows locates users and provides accurate routes to navigate indoor spaces using informed search algorithms. The advantages provided include rapid automated mapping, visual routing, precise localization, and increased accessibility, and real-time routing updates.

With the increase in popularity of remote work contributing to the marked decline of mental health last year due, in part, to the dissolution of barriers separating one’s personal and work life, coupled with evidence suggesting that over two-thirds of people underestimate how long tasks take by up to 21.6%, the need for creating a tool capable of optimally scheduling time have never been more pressing. A pattern-reinforced, digital-assistant incorporating optimal scheduling strategies seeks to address these inextricable problems.

Mental health concerns have increased since the start of the pandemic, where more people are relying on self-help platforms for guidance. These solutions, however, are not accessible to everyone due to language barriers and subscription costs. The objective of Chamomile is to allow content creators around the world to easily publish and monetize their own yoga and meditation sessions. This way, we achieve a solution that is not only accessible to everyone but allows for self-employment in addition to a worldwide reach.

In Canada, 4 million people suffer from hearing loss creating a barrier for communication and situational awareness. Important environmental information is lost in situations where visual cues are lacking. The goal of this project is to design a lightweight solution that maps nearby audio cues to sight and touch. By creating a wearable heads-up display device with integrated audio sensors, we will be able to map the surrounding audio landscape through sight and haptic feedback.
