          an individual working in Canada who
        
        
          has made significant contributions to
        
        
          advance green chemistry and/or
        
        
          engineering, including the technical,
        
        
          human health and environmental
        
        
          benefits. From the award announce-
        
        
          ment:
        
        
          "Flora T. T. Ng obtained her BSc at
        
        
          the University of Hong Kong , MSc
        
        
          and PhD from the University of Brit-
        
        
          ish Columbia. She joined the Univer-
        
        
          sity of Waterloo in 1987, appointed
        
        
          University Research Chair in 2006
        
        
          and holds the prestigious title of
        
        
          University Professor since 2008. She
        
        
          is a Fellow of the Royal Society of
        
        
          Canada. Ng is well-known in the area
        
        
          of catalysis, green chemistry and
        
        
          engineering and a world leading
        
        
          expert on catalytic distillation, a
        
        
          green reactor technology. Her current
        
        
          research projects include the devel-
        
        
          opment of green processes for the
        
        
          production of chemicals and fuels
        
        
          from
        
        
          biomass, upgrading oilsands bitumen
        
        
          and the development of sorbents for
        
        
          the selective removal of sulfur and
        
        
          nitrogen containing compounds  to
        
        
          produce clean fuels. In 2008, she
        
        
          received the CIC Catalysis Award.
        
        
          She was chair of  the Catalysis  Divi-
        
        
          sion, represented Canada to the
        
        
          International Association of Catalysis
        
        
          Societies and also served as  presi-
        
        
          dent of the Canadian Catalysis Foun-
        
        
          dation, a not-for-profit organization
        
        
          for the promotion of catalysis
        
        
          research in Canada."
