- Architecture has joined Engineering, still working through integration with our environment. Resolving issues with IST, including upgrading NAA, switch management, etc.
- Possible System Administrator's Alert page. Added description to explain the authority and effects of the displayed topics. Interested in ideas.
- NAA - would like to propose an enhancement to security strategy
- current login (called "default" for now) would be sufficient for only "safe" or generic protocols, such as http, https, ssh, and encrypted Email, etc. It could offer suggestions to get to the next level (eg. old version here)
- propose a 'software agent' be available to check if the machine is up-to-patches, AV, etc. And if so, open up some remaining protocols (like the current strategy). I have already developed the agent technology for Nexus, are others interested?
- Other OSes, which are not compatible with the agent would be relegated to default, or could possibly be escalated by a trusted user tag.
- Have a user problem tag which would get set if we get annoyed at the user usage, and that tag prevents them from getting more than default. If the tag is serious, it prevents even getting default.
- The tag should have a comment field and an authority, the person or process which finds the problem.
- For very minor infractions, the user could clear the user problem tag by visiting a self serve web site explaining the problem and requiring the user to authenticate to verify that they are aware of the issue and will resolve it.
- Have an interface like ONA for distributed management of these tags
- UWdir
- concerns about determining who is employee versus student, difficult to implement a life cycle
- difficult to determine who employs an employee or who accespts a student.
- sometimes owning unit is not clear, should be able to trace through payroll account or something?
- UWdir creation should present a list of units and not be freeform unless the user forces "Other", also true for student registration (more department spellings for Management Sciences than professors in that dept)
- Reg and I have planned to discuss ideas, do others wish to express UWdir concerns?
