Securing Wireless Clients

A prototype system is available which demonstrates technology to frisk incoming wireless clients (described in my WatItIs presentation, updated docs here)

 

Several CNAG members have made suggestions - particularly about how we must allow a longer grace period than one day before updating virus definitions.  The user interface could also be improved.

 

Crypto-Signing Downloads

There are a number of locations in the campus webspace where users can download Windows executables such as SSH, Symantec AntiVirus, etc..  

 

We should use UW credentials to sign these files using Authenticode so the users will be more comfortable downloading and running them - and also so they don't become complacent about accepting unsigned applications.

 

Archives

The campus Linux web site (linux.uwaterloo.ca) and the IST Linux info pages (eg. http://mypc.uwaterloo.ca/os/linux.html) should also advertise  mirror.cscf which carries additional Linux distributions and other software.
