Engmail uses a number of antispam features which are available with
sendmail
the sender's address must be fully qualified (ie. sender e-mail address must include @domainname)
sender domainname must be resolvable (ie. reject e-mail with a source
e-mail address of userid@nonexistantdomain)
sendmail will only relay e-mail which comes from clients within the uwaterloo.ca domain
SpamAssassin is available to help in pre-identifying spam-like
traits in incoming messages, assigning a "spam-rating" to individual
messages. Users can then use their mail-reader to filter these
identified messages, or can request that procmail (engmail's delivery
agent) pre-screen, divert or delete them. A web-based Mail Handling system is
available as part of the mywaterloo portal.
What if I've got a uwaterloo.ca userid, but I can't send mail from
home
If you get the error message "Relaying denied" when
sending mail from your computer at home, you're probably trying to
relay your outgoing mail through an on-campus machine, rather than
through your Internet Service Provider's outgoing mail (SMTP) server.
Many on-campus machines will not allow relaying of mail from off-campus
sites.
