Projects

Getting my hands dirty with electronics and learning more and more about how gadgets work are things I do for fun. For me, everyday is filled with challenging puzzles. I like to tackle them one by one and successfully solve them. I am sometimes a risk taker, I like to try new things, go beyond what is expected. My immense passion for electronics is the fuel that drives me everyday to DREAM and DESIGN.

I find that projects are the best way for me to not just learn, but also to know how to use technology. Below are some of my personal project. There is more to come!

"Niral is a dedicated engineer with excellent drive and initiative. He helped develop a tool that will be used within our team to validate a productized platform. His detailed status reports can always be relied upon for transparency and accountability."
-Clint D'Souza, Section Manager

Overview

I designed, developed and deployed a stand-alone kernel service driver that uses Windows Advanced Configuration and Power Interface(ACPI) to receive BIOS status flags from systems with integrated and discrete AMD GPUs. From this coop position, I learned a great deal as to how the OS interacts with drivers, Linked Display Adapter chains (Crossfire and Asynchronous Crossfire), ACPI ATPX communication protocols, Free-sync, AMD's PowerXpress features such as Ultra Low Power State, Bus Active Chip OFF, 0Watt etc.

Skills & Knowledge Acquired

  • Designing Windows Driver Model Kernel Mode Drivers
  • XDMA Engine
  • Linked Display Adapter (Crossfire, Asynchronous Crossfire)
  • PowerXpress features
  • DirectX Graphics Kernel Subsystem
  • Time-out Detection Recovery (TDR)

BlackBerry

Lumotune Inc.

[May, 2014 - August, 2014]

"Niral was a great student coop during his stay at BlackBerry. He took ownership of the tasks given to him and had demonstrated sound engineering judgements. Niral would turn out to be a good engineer when he build up his skill sets and knowledge through his studies."
- Jackson Lai, Senior Display Technology Developer

Overview

I took the initiative to propose a colour correction algorithm to the display team that could be implemented in hand-held device designs with bent displays. I was mainly in charge of investigating Samsung's next generation flexible OLED display's and other LCD IPS displays' performance, viability and usability through electrical, optical, mechanical and environmental testing and analysis. I wrote and implemented test case proposals to analyze flexible OLED display's pixel degradation when they are bent for 1000+ hours. I also analyzed and manipulated Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 chip's hue enhancement functionality by alternating it's built-in 3D LUTs files. Moreover, I streamlined and improved data analysis accuracy of one of BlackBerry's display characterizing process by integrating an automation application (in visual c++) which was able to communicate with Blackberry's test instruments and by integrating an automation MATLAB script that organized and generated graphical reports for the user

I received BlackBerry Shooting Star Award!!
