Welcome to the website of the Waterloo e-Nose Design Team
Who are we?
The Waterloo Electronic Nose Design Team is a group of four fourth-year students from the University of Waterloo's Honours Nanotechnology Engineering program. As part of our fourth year design project, our team has designed, developed, and verified a working electronic nose prototype for dynamic gas sensing applications.
We are designed and built a fully-functional electronic nose. Inspired by the human nose, it is a biomimetic device that is able to detect many different types of gases and their concentrations by assigning an " electronic fingerprint " to each gas. We currently have a working device that can sense a limitless number of gases (including hydrogen, methane, ethanol, etc), determine all of the gases in various gas mixtures and their concentrations, and has the ability to quantify the error in its measurements. For the gases we are working with, we intend for our device to match and, by many metrics, surpass the capabilities of the human nose.
