Energy Harvesting using Hybrid Smart Material Devices

The increasing usage of mobile electrical devices demands higher energy efficiency for these units. Self-supplied units which harvest ambient energy become a possibility for reducing operational costs for regular battery replacements. We have developed wideband hybrid energy harvesters that use different types of smart material solutions to convert ambient vibrations into electricity. The team’s completed prototype has also shown potential for various wireless sensing technologies.
