UWCESA has the honour to invite Jeff Chang and Alex Lau, to share their experience on grad studies.

Jeff Chang was born at a small city in proximity to the border of China, Korea and former Soviet Union. He immigrated to Canada when he was 12 and completed his post secondary school at Agincourt C. I., Scarborough. In 1997, he enrolled in the Electrical Engineering program at University of Waterloo and obtained his BASc in 2002. Soon after, he decided to pursue his MASc and joined the Amorphous Silicon Devices and Integrated Circuit (a-SiDIC) group in UW. In 2003, he completed his masters degree with the thesis titled "Two dimensional a-Si: H Sensor Array". Currently he is working towards his doctoral degree in UW on bio-array sensors. The result of the research will be utilized in gene sequencing and manipulation.

Alexander Lau, a single & eligible bachelor, is a native of Toronto. He completed his secondary school diploma from Unionville High School in 1995 with a Certificate of Endorsement in Business Studies. He obtained his degree in Computer Engineering at the University of Waterloo with Second Class honours and an Option in Mathematics in 2000. Afterwards, he pursued his Electrical & Computer Engineering masters degree at the same university, specialising in Software Reliability Engineering. He obtained his Certificate in University Teaching in 2004. He has recently been hired by ATI Technologies as a Diagnostic Engineer.

Cultural Seminar, 6 July 2004

Missed this event? Download Chinese 101 and DIM SUM 101.

In the coming weeks left in this spring term, we will be announcing a few events that we would love for all engineering students to attend.

The first event will be held this Tuesday July 6, 2004. This is our Chinese Engineering Cultural Day. There will be lessons in basic Chinese writing, conversational tools, and introduction to Chinese Dim Sum.

These presentations were designed as crash courses in bits of the chinese culture. They would be very useful for networking and communicating with your Chinese classmates and coworkers. Come take a look.

MS Walk, 18 April 2004

Our first charity event as a club, a walk for multiple sclerosis (MS), was a success with our team raising over $500! Through our efforts and everyone else that participated, the Markham- Stouffville walk raised over $45,000 for MS research and assistance. Even though the weather wasn't with us last Sunday (we were all soaked right through!), that didn't dampen anyone's mood. I'd like to thank everyone that took part, and hopefully our next charity will be an even bigger success!
