Vertical Farming of Legumes

1

The world’s population is expected to increase by 2 billion in the next 30 years and it is predicted that global agricultural output will need to increase by 70% to meet this new demand. Vertical farming offers a potential solution through improved yields and year-round growing but it is primarily limited to low-calorie leafy greens. Our project focuses on the design, construction, and verification of an aeroponic vertical farm testbed to explore the viability of using aeroponic farming methods to grow calorie-dense legumes continuously year-round.

Project Loot

2

79% of businesses fail because they "started out with too little money". Here at Project Loot, our mission is to help small- and medium-sized businesses find and secure critical funding easier and faster by utilizing modern software solutions. Our platform processes information submitted by business owners and through our recommendation engine, built on Natural Language Processing (NLP) algorithms, which respond back with a custom list of highly relevant grants and funds. Then, business owners can focus on what they do best: building and selling their products and services.

Head Kinematic and Kinetic Data Collection

3

American football players are subject to numerous impacts to the head, these impacts cause traumatic brain injuries that are not well studied. This is in part due to the lack of data available to researchers. Our system is able to capture accurate kinematic and kinetic data in real time for research use without affecting the performance, weight or fit of the helmet. We hope that this data provides insight into traumatic brain injuries, their causes and improves concussion protocols in the NFL.

Bike Bank

4

Bike Bank offers a safe and convenient way to ensure your ride to work or school is stress free. Our solution consists of an electronically controlled bicycle locking station designed to be integrated into a city’s infrastructure to promote bicycling within communities. These stations provide a secure and convenient alternative to a conventional bike lock. Users may interact with the bike stations to lock/unlock their bike using a mobile phone app. The design of the device allows extremely low energy use, allowing energy to be harvested from the surrounding environment.
