Each year, the University of Waterloo opens its doors to a

new generation of ambitious graduate students, eager to

join one of Canada’s most prestigious engineering depart-

ments. In Waterloo’s cultural landscape, where innovation

and achievement are a top priority, students need take a

break from their intensive studies from time to time, and

          connect with fellow students.

The Chemical Engineering Graduate Student Association

(CEGSA) is a liaison between the graduate student body

          and Waterloo’s acclaimed, research-intensive Department

of Chemical Engineering. Unique among campus organiza-

tions, its members are represented at various committees,

such as the department’s Health and Safety Committee.

CEGSA aims to enrich the overall quality of the educational

          experience.

CEGSA has enhanced the graduate experience through

various activities, including excursions to Wasaga Beach

and the Chicopee Ski Club. CEGSA has provided a

platform for many generations of graduate students to form

bonds (no pun intended), address university-wide issues,

          and receive academic support.

Every day, nearly 250 members prove that it is possible to

maintain high grades while being actively involved in a

community — specifically CEGSA, which students have

worked diligently to create and maintain. With traditions

such as the annual fall BBQ, attended by both faculty and

students, CEGSA has continued to provide its members

with memorable experiences. William Szolga, CEGSA’s

social coordinator, remembers the 2013 BBQ as one of his

favourite memories of the academic year; he fondly recalls

his team went undefeated in a mini volleyball tournament.
