ParaMESH

Overview

ParaMESH is an advanced parameter management system used to optimize, verify, and restore parameter values.

ParaMESH was initially developed under the supervision of Dr. E. D. Soulis at the University of Waterloo (Ontario, CA) and B. Davison at the National Hydrology Research Centre (Saskatchewan, CA) with Environment Canada. It was designed to improve the modelling process for graduate students. ParaMESH has since become an advanced parameter management system for all model developers and model users alike.

ParaMESH has been configured for the WATFLOW, CLASS, and MESH modelling environments, but can be easily re-configured to support any text-based input file, independent of the model being used. Visit the Support section for more information.

Compatibility

ParaMESH is compatible with a variety of climatological and hydrological models, including all versions of standalone MESH. Future versions of ParaMESH will include compatibility with CLASS and WATFLOW.

Parameter Verification

ParaMESH automatically verifies parameter values. Its built-in parameter management system will check that numbers are numbers, that values fit within the physical bounds of their respective fields, and that numeric values are formatted to the highest level of significant digits.
ParaMESH supports advanced parameter verification. It will check the sensibility of numeric values by comparing them to ranges that have been defined for the modelling environment.
ParaMESH supports extended parameter verification. It will check if numeric values meet any other requirements of the model, including cross-parameter verification (values that rely on other values).

Advanced Parameter Management

ParaMESH maintains a history of previously used parameter values.
ParaMESH allows users to define default values that may be preferred for specific parameters.

Model Extensions

ParaMESH supports calling a batch file to run the model executable or a user-defined modelling scheme.
ParaMESH will support a calibration extension (to be released next year) that will allow automated manual calibration of parameter values while using MESH. The compatibility of this extension may be extended to include other models that are being supported by ParaMESH.
