Building Unparalleled Facilities

As Waterloo Engineering grows, we face an urgent need for space.  Indeed, space is the largest obstacle in our work to become widely recognized as the best engineering school in Canada.

We envision three new buildings and additions to two more – adding more than 400,000 square feet to our existing 800,000 square feet.  It is by far the largest physical expansion in Waterloo Engineering’s history.

The next three years will see the campus transformed by three new buildings dedicated entirely to engineering: Engineering V, breaking ground in 2008; Engineering VI in 2009; and Engineering VII in 2010. There will be classrooms, research facilities, student spaces, a major student design centre, and homes for our scattered departments.

Also, our School of Architecture in Cambridge will be building a new wing to support its growing graduate program. And our fast-growing nanotechnology research and teaching programs will find a new home in a wing of the soon-to-be-built Quantum/Nano Centre.
More than half of the money we are raising ‑  $61.5 million – will go toward the construction of our new buildings.
