Supporting Groundbreaking Research

At Waterloo Engineering, our research has one goal: to make a difference.  Better artificial limbs -- greener buildings -- diagnostic labs you can hold in your hand -- computers you can fold up and put in your pocket: tomorrow’s technologies start at Waterloo.  Through Vision 2010, we’re working to do more of that research –doubling our research funding between 2005 and 2010. And we will continue to lead Canada in the transfer of ideas and technology to the private sector.

To strengthen our research program, we will establish 20 endowed chairs, raising a total of $30 million.

An endowed chair is one of the most prestigious and permanent investments that can be made in academia.   They are a sought-after honour among faculty, a well-known quality measure among universities, and a source of lasting satifisfaction to donors, who can link their name with a commitment to research excellence for generations to come.

We will use our new endowed chairs to attract faculty members of truly international stature.  This leadership is exactly what we need to bring our research to the next level.

We are raising endowments of $1.5 million per chair.  The university will match the payout, doubling the impact of donations – a great opportunity for our donors to help attract top professional talent to Waterloo Engineering.
