This year's Tech Expo will be held at the Student Life Centre (SLC) on the University of Waterloo Campus. The SLC is a busy place as it is the centre of activity on campus. We will have an early start Friday morning, with buses leaving the hotel at 8:00. With luck, all competitors will be set-up and ready for judging by 10:00. This will be a long day and all teams will be required to have at least one person with their displays at all times of the day. The judges will travel randomly to each team, so be prepared for a judge to come to your display at any time. There will be hundreds of people in the SLC throughout the day and we will not be held responsible for any damage or lost of property during the Exposition.
Each team will be provided with a 10' by 10' area for their display. Curtains will be set up to divide each area. Electricity can be supplied to each display. Only waxing and filing will be allowed in the building. All debris must land on plastic sheets that will be provided. Also, tables will be available for the teams to use. All other materials needed for the display are to be supplied by the individual team. This includes electrical extension cords and stiff backdrops for mounting displays. For teams travelling long distances that do not wish transport electrical equipment (such as televisions), a list of local companies that rent such equipment is being prepared and will be available shortly after the New Year.
Due to the large number of people expected, it will be difficult to move toboggans during the day. For this reason, you will not be allowed to remove your toboggan from the SLC during the exposition for any reason. Any last minute alterations to pass safety or make weight will need to be completed after 4:00. So please make sure your toboggan is ready for competition before it comes to the Tech Expo.
After the exposition, teams will be expected to stay and clean their area. If we all work together this should not take long. Before we can leave, the SLC must be in the same condition as when we started in the morning.
The SLC is a popular place on campus, so expect to be approached by lots of people curious about the competition. Their questions will probably be more demanding than those of the judges. And most of all remember to have fun.
