  • Buses to/from Airport

Teams can order a full size school bus through the Organizational Committee to pick them up at the airport at the teams expense. We will need your flight information and numbers. The bus will cost you $250.00 no matter what time of day the flight arrives. Please let us know if you will require a bus by emailing Wendy Brant if you haven't already notified us when you registered. We will be trying to co-ordinate the buses with other teams when arrival times and numbers permit to reduce the costs to you. Remember that your luggage will take up seat space. Also, buses back on Sunday to the Airport will cost an additional $250.00.

    Shipping Your Toboggan

Toboggans can be shipped to the following address:

    Concrete Lab
    Attn. Terry Ridgeway/Richard Morrison
    Engineering 3
    University of Waterloo
    Waterloo, Ontario
    N2L 3G1

Please talk to the shipping company to ensure their requirements as far as packaging etc. are met. The toboggans will be loaded onto a flat bed truck, using a forklift, for transport to the hill. Please take this into account when designing your crate.

Please make sure your toboggans arrive in plenty of time for the competition. Indoor space has been allotted to store the crated toboggans until the competition starts. We would like to see the toboggans arrive by January 25, 1999 to relieve some of the pre-competition stress.

Teams are responsible for their own arrangements for shipping their toboggans back home. The shipping companies can pick up the crated toboggans at the University.

If you have any questions on shipping your toboggan, please email Wendy Brant.

    Technical Exhibition Details

This year's Tech Expo will be held at the Student Life Centre (SLC) on the University of Waterloo Campus. The SLC is a busy place as it is the centre of activity on campus. We will have an early start Friday morning, with buses leaving the hotel at 8:00. With luck, all competitors will be set-up and ready for judging by 10:00. This will be a long day and all teams will be required to have at least one person with their displays at all times of the day. The judges will travel randomly to each team, so be prepared for a judge to come to your display at any time. There will be hundreds of people in the SLC throughout the day and we will not be held responsible for any damage or lost of property during the Exposition.

Each team will be provided with a 10' by 10' area for their display. Curtains will be set up to divide each area. Electricity can be supplied to each display. Only waxing and filing will be allowed in the building. All debris must land on plastic sheets that will be provided. Also, tables will be available for the teams to use. All other materials needed for the display are to be supplied by the individual team. This includes electrical extension cords and stiff backdrops for mounting displays. For teams travelling long distances that do not wish transport electrical equipment (such as televisions), a list of local companies that rent such equipment is being prepared and will be available shortly after the New Year.

Due to the large number of people expected, it will be difficult to move toboggans during the day. For this reason, you will not be allowed to remove your toboggan from the SLC during the exposition for any reason. Any last minute alterations to pass safety or make weight will need to be completed after 4:00. So please make sure your toboggan is ready for competition before it comes to the Tech Expo.

After the exposition, teams will be expected to stay and clean their area. If we all work together this should not take long. Before we can leave, the SLC must be in the same condition as when we started in the morning.

The SLC is a popular place on campus, so expect to be approached by lots of people curious about the competition. Their questions will probably be more demanding than those of the judges. And most of all remember to have fun.
