SmartScope
1
The identification and diagnosis of heart murmurs is subjective, and false positives lead to expensive and unnecessary medical intervention. The process often involves advanced testing modalities and highly trained specialists - which are oftentimes not easily accessible in low middle-income countries and rural areas. SmartScope is a custom built digital stethoscope that employs artificial intelligence to detect abnormal heart sounds, reducing subjectivity and mitigating unnecessary testing. SmartScope is designed with accessibility in mind; it leverages low-cost, open-source components and doesn’t require an internet connection.

Our project aims to design a device to be used by respiratory therapists to incorporate additional precautionary measures when intubating/extubating patients with air-borne diseases, while maximizing usability. Our device is intended to be implemented into existing intubation/extubation workflows and extraneous medical device workflows without reducing airflow isolation capabilities and without negatively impacting patients’ breathing during use.

Recognizing the lack of affordable storage methods for pharmaceuticals in Sub-Saharan Africa, PyrexiaMD strives to assist through three primary functions: active cooling, dehumidification, and active temperature tracking; all in a portable battery powered device. Through this, the solution maintains optimal environmental conditions even in the highly variable environment observed in Eastern Africa; ensuring high quality medications are attainable to people in all regions.

CortiNo
4
With the rise of mental health issues and counseling treatments, there is a need for psychotherapy patients to track their progress over time tangibly. CortiNo allows users to monitor their salivary cortisol levels over time for an objective measurement of stress levels. Patients will use lateral flow assays to conduct point-of-care measurements of salivary cortisol levels. The CortiNo mobile application processes images of the assays to quantify the cortisol reading. Historical data is stored in the application and used to assess changes over time.

Lexicognition
5
Recruitment for clinical trials is one of the biggest challenges in developing treatments for Alzheimer’s due to the lengthy, costly, and sometimes invasive multi-stage process. Lexicognition is a platform that screens patients for enrolment in clinical trials for Alzheimer’s treatments by assessing features of their speech. The tool guides users through verbal exercises and extracts digital biomarkers to determine eligibility.
