PriceGen

There are many online secondhand clothing marketplaces where people can buy and sell their used clothing, however there exists a barrier of reliability where people are reluctant to buy secondhand clothing because of differences in perceived value of clothing items. This project uses a machine learning model that generates selling prices for secondhand clothing items based on factors such as the condition and brand of the item. The goal of the project is to increase buyer trust and confidence in secondhand clothing purchases.

Wildlife Hotspots

10

"Wildlife Hotspots" assists ecologists by highlighting hotspots of animal movement and identifying potential risks of road mortality. Wildlife connectivity models are important to ecologists during the planning of new development projects because they can help determine the placement or need of wildlife crossings. Current tools are not widely used due to their low usability and a high technical barrier-to-entry. Wildlife Hotspot’s goal is to combine complex wildlife modeling with geographic information systems in a usable way to help the planning process of new developments.

Balestra

12

Balestra is looking to empower and motivate individuals who are affected by structural unemployment by helping them discover, plan and execute a new career path. Instead of relying on expensive one-on-one coaching, we aim to empower the user by helping them evaluate their own experience coupled with a data-based modeling approach, to identify skill gaps and areas of opportunity. Overall, we aim to help users with lower education, labour-based jobs advance to higher-skilled and higher-wage positions.
