CycleScout

15

Bike theft is a prominent issue in the Waterloo region, and cyclists are often left helpless and bikeless due to the lack of support available. CycleScout is a discrete device that can help detect bike theft and track a bike's location, empowering cyclists with the knowledge necessary to get their bikes back. Unlike other bike trackers that need to be charged frequently, CycleScout is a low-power device that allows for a more permanent and dependable solution while not interfering with cyclists' biking habits.

LINX

Sponsorship at the local level is broken. Our team has found that clubs struggle in securing sponsorships for their activities, while local businesses are interested in sponsoring but either get too many requests to manage or are not approached at all.

We’re focused on creating a solution to bridge the gap between these groups and level the playing field regardless of club type or size. Through our platform LINX, we hope the clubs and businesses in our communities will be able to establish long-lasting partnerships.

Tunes of Life

17

To address the issue of cognitive decline that is inevitable with advancement of age, our team is aiming to create a VR game inspired by the non-pharmacological concepts such as music therapy, reminiscence therapy, and physical exercise that would actively challenge their cognitive abilities in areas of attention, recognition and perception, while also taking into account their physical and cognitive constraints. Our target audience would broadly encompass older adults near or past retirement age, but not necessarily experiencing any existing physical or cognitive impairments.

Rugby is becoming increasingly popular in Canada, but Canada currently falls short of international success. With a lack of local access to high-level coaching and limited remote coaching tools, our platform connects coaches and athletes to provide them with the necessary real-time collaborative tools to create rugby-specific drills, plays, animations and conduct team management tasks.

LingoShare

19

LingoShare is a web-based platform that connects older adult Chinese immigrants to young adult language learners who are interested in learning Chinese. We engage our users with topic-based discussion prompts that are surfaced in a video calling experience that works to promote cultural discussion. Designing for older adults comes with its challenges and we hope our project will help to lessen the digital divide and social isolation many older adults in Canada face.

WAThousing

20

Wathousing is an end-to-end, student subletting marketplace. The current processes and solutions for browsing and securing sublet housing in the Kitchener-Waterloo region are painstakingly ineffective. Students need a secure, online subletting platform that is accessible only to verified-Waterloo students, which enables them to advertise and browse sublet options, while conveniently forming legal sublet agreements.

Pharmabox

21

Pharmabox is a contactless prescription pick-up system that utilizes a locked drug storage unit that can be accessed via entering a pinched by patients receiving a text on their smartphones. The system includes an interface for staff to view the status of boxes, see when prescriptions are picked up, and create new prescriptions. The goal is to make prescription pick-up more convenient and reduce the need for unnecessary waits in pharmacy visits.

Stooping and Furniture Reuse Platform

22

Our team is aiming to reduce furniture waste by creating a platform to encourage greater participation in furniture reuse within communities. Our inspiration is a concept known as stooping, in which community members leave items they no longer need on their porches or ‘stoops’ for free taking by the community. Our project will be addressing many existing issues with this concept, whether they be technical or social; with the end goal of making it more attractive to new participants and decreasing waste and unnecessary consumption.
