The Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race (GNCTR) was developed in the mid seventies as a Canadian version of the concrete canoe race which is held in the United States each year. Both of these events are sponsored by the  American Concrete Institute (ACI) .

Since its inception Canadian and American university students have gathered annually at a Canadian University to compete against each other.  While this provides a good celebration in what is usually the students last year in school it also provides a good learning experience.
The competitions location alternates yearly between Western provinces (British
Columbia, Alberta Saskatchewan and Manitoba) and Eastern provinces

More details are provided at last years GNCTR site right here in Waterloo.
