Briighter

6

Efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions often hedge on a transition away from fossil fuels towards an electricity-powered society. This assumes that electricity is comprised of solely renewable or non-emitting energy, which is not the case in many areas. Briighter aims to increase renewable energy usage by bridging the knowledge gap between Canadians' local energy grid, available electricity sources and consumer usage patterns. With Briighter, consumers can optimize electricity usage to fit their lifestyles while staying green.

Eye Phone

7

Eye Phone is a smartphone-based device that leverages infrared and deep learning methods for a variety of pupillometry applications. It measures a large number of pupil attributes to ensure its flexibility in supporting different use cases, such as head trauma assessment, glaucoma screening, and cognitive ergonomics research. By analyzing pupillometry from a systems perspective, this design solution also improves economic accessibility and requires limited expertise to use.

FieldNotes

8

Many existing urban planning processes can result in redundant outreach efforts that miss the true concerns of local communities. FieldNotes is a geospatial tool for facilitating participatory planning and meaningful engagement with communities on municipal project proposals. By identifying local partnerships, and unifying existing reports across department silos, FieldNotes helps develop more representative outreach plans.
