A MESSAGE FROM THE ASSOCIATE DEAN

Jason Grove

Associate Dean

Welcome to the Interdisciplinary Engineering Capstone Design Symposium!

I am proud to introduce the designs developed by students from across the faculty as they completed their interdisciplinary capstone projects. At least two engineering programs are represented on each team, enabling them to tackle tough problems requiring multi-domain expertise. The differences in background and perspective also provide a challenge and each group has had to work hard on communication and collaboration skills as they come together in effective teams. This learning environment echoes the real world where problems cut across many domains. We hope the learning experience has been rich and rewarding for all involved. I am sure that you will agree that the resulting work is excellent.

To the students – a year ago you took the bold step of joining an interdisciplinary capstone project team. I hope that the experience has been fulfilling and has helped you in your development as an engineer. Taking such risks is integral to the process of innovation, and I look forward to hearing about your future accomplishments.

Our students benefit greatly from working on authentic, real-world problems and this is enabled by the generosity of our industrial sponsors and collaborators. We are always looking for projects for the future – if your organization has problems that our students could work on, please get in touch! I would also like to acknowledge the hard work of all the staff and faculty whose guidance and support enable our students to succeed.

Enjoy the symposium!
