Fort McMurray Clearwater River Flood Mitigation; The Town of Fort McMurray, Alberta is prone to devasting floods due to ice jamming of the Clearwater River. These floods cause millions of dollars of insurable damage and displace the residents. The AC&A project team will be designing a two-part flood mitigation strategy to eliminate future flooding. This design includes installation of a dyke system along with the creation of an open channel bypass to allow the river to flow into in the case of ice jamming.

On April 15, 2019, a fire broke out within the highly iconic Notre Dame de Paris Cathedral destroying the spire, the oak roof supports and the supported lead roof. Our project aims at redesigning and restoring both the roof and spire of this historic landmark. The Republic of France has retained Baroque Bois & Associates to create a design that remains faithful to the cultural heritage and last for generations to come.

In order to provide affordable studio housing to young adults in Toronto, in an area that currently has high greenhouse gas emissions and low visual appeal, we designed a green modular residential building. The main concept incorporates both 2D and 3D steel modular units to maximize living space and minimize construction costs. The designed residential building is also planned to be sustainable and energy efficient, with incorporation of plants throughout the exterior as well as a green roof to provide more green spaces.

Mars has often been viewed as the pinnacle of human exploration, and a natural next step in humanity’s quest to become an interstellar species. In order to accomplish this, we must first establish a facility to conduct vital research to determine how to perform a full-scale colonization. Our goal is to complete the structural and building envelope design of such a structure. This includes selecting the location, terrain level, and materials. A rough staging plan and drawings will also be provided.

With many medical facilities across Canada running over capacity due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, there is a need for additional medical space to provide relief. To address this, MS Limited is working to design a temporary facility that can be readily deployed in the event of a pandemic or natural disaster. The team is focusing on the structural design of the facility as well as aspects of the building envelope to ensure a robust, constructible, and cost-effective solution.
