Highway 97 is a vital corridor connecting the west of British Columbia to the remainder of Canada. The highway travels directly through the City of Kelowna, being used as both a provincial highway route and high-volume local route. Congestion on the corridor has been an ongoing concern and will continue to worsen as Kelowna’s population grows. The team’s recommended express lane design will aim to limit lane merging opportunities to increase the flow of vehicles, reduce travel time, and improve traffic safety.

The Malahat Highway is the primary road connection between Victoria and Duncan on Vancouver Island in British Columbia. However, due to high collision rates, particularly between Malahat Village and Whittaker Road, the Malahat experiences 12 long duration closures per year, severing the connection between Victoria and Duncan. C-DAM innovations was retained to design roundabouts at the Malahat’s intersections with Shawnigan Lake Road and Whittaker Road, and to develop a variable speed limit system for the corridor to reduce the frequency of collisions and highway closures.

In response to rapid population growth, Southern Ontario currently faces pressure to urbanize. This pressure has elicited a complex response from The Town of Caledon due to their desire to maintain their rural and agricultural heritage. A 36-ha property has been identified as suitable for a mixed-use, largely residential subdivision. In order to develop while being sensitive to surrounding ecological features, Compass Design Solutions has been retained to prepare a stormwater management solution where runoff generated by the site is infiltrated directly at the source.

The Peel Street Bridge, built more than 100 years ago, is a two-span camelback steel truss structure that crosses the Grand River in Woolwich, Ontario. Over the years, several rehabilitation projects have been overtaken to maintain the structure's existing capacity. Evergreen Group was retained by the Township of Woolwich to provide a safe, cost effective, and sustainable rehabilitation strategy that preserves the cultural significance of the existing structure and will benefit the community for years to come.
