GeoVision Consulting

Copper Mountain Mine Tailings Design

1

Safely managing tailings is an ongoing problem in the mining industry. Tailings management facilities have been commonly used to address this problem. GeoVision consulting has developed a feasible tailings management solution for the Copper Mountain Mine following environmental and safety complaints made on a previous design. GeoVision’s solution is to construct a new tailings management facility near the mine expansion site which will facilitate a 12-year life of mine expansion for Copper Mountain Mine.

Oursons Limited

Eveleigh Waste Transfer Site and Medora Lagoons Remediation Project

2

Landfill leachate is a harmful groundwater contaminant that can be difficult to treat due to its complex chemical composition. In rural Muskoka, Ontario, unlined landfills have been the source of significant groundwater pollution. Oursons Ltd. is proposing the use of a permeable reactive barrier (PRB) as a low cost, passive solution to minimize environmental damage for the Eveleigh Waste Transfer and Medora Lagoons Site.

Steeped Engineering

St. Cyr Landslide Stabilization

3

The St. Cyr Landslide is an active rockslide in the east valley slope of the Revelstoke Reservoir. Catastrophic failure of the slide into the reservoir could pose detrimental consequences to hydroelectric facilities along the Columbia River and the Town of Revelstoke. Steeped Engineering analyzed the slide and proposed that movement is a result of elevated piezometric levels and a weak geological unit in the slide mass. The resulting solution mitigates these factors by designing a drainage adit. A monitoring system is included in the design.

Low Flow Bros

Bellekeno Mine Remediation Project

4

Mining and resource extraction is one of Canada’s largest industries, however, the contamination and mine wastes left behind can have detrimental impacts on the surrounding environment and communities. Harmful metals and sulphates can enter the surface and groundwater leading to wide scale contamination, impacting fish, wildlife, and human health. Low Flow Bros aims to design a passive, in situ water treatment system for the Bellekeno mine site at the United Keno Hill Mines in Yukon Territory.
